So, everyone do their taxes yet? We did ours tonight. Last night I tore apart my office looking for a statement; it showed up in today's mail.

Doing taxes reminds me of one of the greatest movies ever. It's a solid 9.5 on the Fletch Scale.

I've got all my documentation together, I just need to sit down and do it. I plan on starting it tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah, it's time for me to do it. I switched investment companies last year and I am PRAYING that the new one has automatic import to TurboTax.

That auto import saved me a ton of time and headache.

i usually have everything entered into turbotax by the time i get my W2. all the information on the W2 is on my last pay stub for the year, bank has mortgage tax docs online a few days after the new year, as does my investment account. i only wait for the paper copies to verify everything, and then submit.

of course due to the sillyness of the gov't and the IRS, there are several people that took the standard deduction and filed after i did, that already have their refunds, and i'm still waiting on mine.

I was afraid I was going to owe about 1300... When I had my taxes done by a local tax lady, she brought it down to 331, so I'm stoked!

I had my state refund 2 weeks ago, now just waiting on my federal money to get back.

I'm the guy that files my taxes the last weekend of January and get it over with. What's the point in waiting?

I also use taxact.com over turbotax. I think it cost me $18 to file both returns with direct deposit refunds.

I'm waiting because after I look at how much of my money was already taken from me over the year and then how much more I have to send them, I want to keep it for as long as I can. Silly? Sure. Will it really make me feel any better? No. Is there a chance that I'll be able to figure out some deduction or credit that I'm missing and save some money in the next month or two? Hopefully.

^That was more of a rhetorical question, it wasn't directed at you. We were writing our posts about the same time, no offense intended.

I wasn't offended. Just trying to answer your question. I'm nowhere near as grumpy as my avatar makes me seem.

EDIT: Changed my avatar to make it a little less grumpy looking.

Uncle Sam sez not to bother filing until mid-March if you itemize, reinforcing my natural tendency to procrastinate. From year to year, I never know if I'll be writing a check or cashing one, so tax time is a little like being tested for the clap. Part of me doesn't want to know....

We got ours done last week. I actually got chastised for not spending enough money on the race car, as it's tax-deductible. The Targa Newfoundland should take care of that for next year...

I did mine yesterday with the "help" of my two year old son. Hopefully turbo tax, steered me in the right direction. We are getting a refund, but unfortunately it will not be earmarked for anything auto/racing related.

I'll have to check if the IRS has release the new Alien Tax Guide for 2010 before I can go back bother my local CPA with our US return. At least I did my UK tax return on time, now we only have to find out why the refund there was a little smaller than expected...

Yay! Refund! I like doing taxes, because my job deducts too much money on every paycheck. Therefore I always get a refund. Which I can spend on car parts.

And also I'm "single" (the tax code doesn't care about engaged), don't own a house, and don't have kids. Simplifies things.

Well, yeah, I could have taken the standard deduction.

But then I would be getting back $900 instead of $2500.

Yup, itemized is where's it's at. About the only thing that takes the pain away from mortgage interest!

I did lose my student loan interest deduction now that I'm married, but it's not too big a deal, it would've only netted me an extra $20.
