More specifically, I'm looking to get into wind energy as an engineer for sound and vibration testing, but all of the positions I have found ask you to name your desired salary in advance. Now I have a pretty good frame of reference for what a design/test engineer makes at ground level, but the areas I'm looking at are all field work, which means I'll be climbing. A lot. Does anyone have any experience with such a thing? How much do engineers on turbines usually make?

I've read that the technicians that work on them all start out at a fairly low income, but once you've proven your reliability at heights you can climb the pay grade ladder pretty quickly. Would it be similar for engineers?

The job is in Germany by the way, with travel to China, Turkey, Canada, England, and various other wind-savvy countries.
