around here there is a company that rebroadcasts over the air all the major network channels out of Minneapolis/St Paul plus a couple dozen basic cable channels- the Weather Channel, History, C Span, MSNBC, Discovery, Lifetime, and a few other channels i forget about. no Disney, tho.
this is a free service, but they do accept donations to pay for everything.
they do this because this area is exactly in the middle of the no-man's land between the Fargo stations and the Minneapolis/St Paul stations. you still need to get the digital converter box to watch the channels, but it's free.

It looks like a combo of ESPN3 streaming free online, Roku, Netflix and Hulu premium will get me what I want for less than $20/month. With the cost of the Roku, the payback is like 3 months. Sweet.
I have been living without TV service for amost 3 years now. We have a HTPC hooked up to the TV in the living room and one of the best things I found was the right browser. I know a lot of people just use the built in media center, but this is also an option.

I like it be3cause it sems to be a browser built for big screen TVs, the home page is links to streaming media sites, mostly unpaid. It does not do Hulu on the first install, but you can go there, change the compatibility of the browser to firefox and never know the difference.
I do find content by other means as well, but usually just going directly to the network's website or hulu will do the trick for what I tend to watch. Netflix is going to be added to the system at the beginning of the year.
