How old is your cell phone? Damn near anything made in the last 3-5 years has the ability to put mp3's on it. Swap in a cheapo flash card, load up, and rock on.
Cell phone? What the berkeley is a cell phone? Yeah, I don't have one of those either. Thanks for the advice, d00ds. I believe I'll hit up the pawn shop today.
newegg.com has a 2GB Sanspeak for $29 for the next 48-72 hours. Just got the flyer in my email.
I have an older Sansa with Rockbox on it, works very well and the Rockbox OS is much better than what came on it.
Anyone with an mp3 player should check out that software, its very cool.

I don't get how people can passionately hate iTunes. I've had zero problems using it for several years, on several devices. I am far from an apple koolaid drinker, but the iPod and iTunes integrate nicely, are easy to use, gives an easy way to buy songs, etc. I turned off the auto-sync option because I want to manage the music manually, but beyond that it is as installed.
No matter how I set it up, Itunes always erases all my songs to put new ones on, it duplicates the songs on the Ipod, and it's had to simply "drag and drop" stuff. And yes, I've tried to set it to "manually manage Ipod" mode, and it still does it.
Media Monkey makes it not only useable, but very, very simple to use. Also, it's very easy to edit MP3 details and tag songs with album art and manage your music library. It uses Amazon dot com to tag the albums, which usually works well. I've been using it pretty much since I got the Ipod, and that was like 3 years ago now. It also works with other MP3 players. And it's free.
The Sansa's are great units, and they consistently get better reviews for sound quality than the apple stuff. I have two of them, a clip and fuse for myself, and the wife has a fuse, and never had a lick of trouble.
I also like the radio tuner on the Sansa units, comes in handy if you want to listen to a game or whatever instead of the tunes.
Sansa. I've bought three from woot and they're all wonderful. You'll pay about $20 for it (maybe), get a 2 or 4 gig version and rock on.

I mow the lawn (and ride my bicycle and skateboard) w/ my 8GB Creative Zen V. Thing is stout as hell--survived a trip through the washer and dryer.
Too pricey for OP's budget, though... (maybe find a cheap 4GB on ebay, though)
