I'm going to assume that means a 4-pack a day? Thats about $6 dollars a day, or 30 a week, or well over $1000 a year. That dude needs some personal finance lessons.

Great. Now I'm still wired, and now frightened. More rum, more herb. Arrgghh. I DO learn from my mistakes.
I'm a big energy drink consumer when I need the energy. I tend to like the ones that do more on the vitamins side than ones that are all caffeine. I also like sugar free ones.
I've done FL to NJ on energy drinks. 22 hours on the road on the way up, about 20 on the way back. My wife took over driving for about 3 hours on the way up, but didn't touch the steering wheel the whole way back.
i drink water on any drive less than 12 hours, and one diet coke for drives between 12 - 18 hours. if the 12+-hour drive begins after a full day of work, then i'll drink a small bottle of starbucks mocha frappucino. energy drinks are for Bob Costas.

That's still cheaper than smoking. I go with the Howling Monkey myself
I drink a lot of coffee as it is, so energy drinks give a small jolt at most. I actually like the taste of Red Bull, so I will have one every once in a while. Monster doesn't taste bad either.
Man, I've got to say I hate putting crap like that in my body. I do drink caffeine, although I've limited myself to a max of 2 sodas a day (I know that's not that low, but that's a limit; most days I try to have one or a little more than one) and drink about a gallon and a half of water, plus a tall glass of milk a day. But I don't drink coffee and I don't drink energy drinks. Every week or so, I have to drive about 150 long miles after a full day on not much sleep. With my girlfriend in the car, I'm sometimes so terrified at my sleepiness that I stop at the requisite oasis (small town on the highway that's simply gas stations and fast food) to grab a small Red Bull.
Solution? Don't put yourself in that situation. Sometimes you can't help it, but I hate being that tired and driving. And I hate having to grab a Red Bull. I've been good at avoiding those situations and rarely ever drink one these days. Bust ass all week to make Thursday night easier so you can grab more sleep. Wake up early, screw the extra 10 minutes of sleep (when has anyone ever thought "Good thing I slept an extra 10 minutes, I can really feel the difference?") and grab breakfast. Keep hydrated with water, not soda. Eat good food, like pasta. Then drive. Talk with someone, listen to music, take stretch breaks. After way too many late nights, study and work grinds, and long drives, I've found that works. Wish I could go back and tell 20 year-old JeepinMatt that.
I have never spent a penny on red bull, only when they want me to have it for free. On second thought, I paid for a jager bomb once... and that was it.
Monster Khaos(50% OJ) is crack in a can for me. But I only drink it as a last resort. The best was last week when I had to mix it with sudaphed (the real stuff that you get from behind the counter) to make it thrue my shift. I would have stayed home sick if I was the only person to call out.
As for my daily caffine, in cold weather I have approx 40oz of ealr gray and now I go thrue 1/2-1 gallon of iced T a day.
Sorry, I don't drink that crap.
I'll be laughing in 20 years when they find out that it causes cancer of the rectum or something awful like that.
Before you pooh-pooh my paranoia, just remember, asbestos was perfectly safe at one time too.
I'll stick to plain-old coffee thanks.

I love 5 Hour Energy.
Tastes like E36 M3, but you only have to deal with a shot glass amount. 2000% of your daily B vitamin in one shot.
Did an overnight drive from Ft. Bragg to Scranton, PA during a snow storm on one shot.
Other than that, the only stuff that actually gives me an alert feeling is NOS. I miss the days when it came in a bottle that actuall looked like a little NOS bottle
I haven't touched any of them. My daughter and my girlfriend both prefer "Monster", but I've got so many health problems from my mis-spent youth that I don't dare take more than a sip when they've got one open.
OTOH, the longest road trip I take anymore is only six hours..so I don't need anything other than 5-6hrs sleep beforehand, and about 20oz of coffee (I don't drink it everyday anymore, so it actually stokes me up when I do drink it) in the morning. YMMV.
I had one of these once. I started speaking in a stacatto voice and very very slowly punching bad guys in the throat...
Stress and fear keep me wired all day at work, Mountain Dew to kick start the morning. Coca-Cola for relaxing and road trips. No energy drinks for m. One of the guys here drinks Monster like crazy, I can smell it across the room. YUCK!

I still don't think they were convinced that I wasn't "special".
Out of context this alone makes you look like a typical GRM forum poster. The rest of it sounds like my RedBull experiences.

I am SOOO glad no one admits he is from Lansing, Mi....
Aww E36 M3 I did it again.
I drove from New Jersey to Iowa in one sitting and only drank water and Snapple Peach iced tea.
But there have been times when I needed a pick-up and the Red Bull fits the bill perfectly. I actually like the taste so I have to consciously choose to not drink it.

I had a different reaction, I was breaking dudes' spines over my knee and tossing them down elevator shafts.
I'm not a huge fan of the regular Red Bull, but the Red Bull cola is surprisingly not bad for you - check the ingredients on it, it really doesn't have any nasty chemicals and BS in it..
If its good enough for Drew Brees:

Its good enough for me. I've stopped drinking coffee and just take one of these in the morning (actually the powdered form, called Spark, since I can get a tub of it fairly cheap) and I'm good all day with no crash afterward.

I've tried some of those other energy drinks and they're mostly sugar and other chemicals that really get you screwed up. This from a guy who used to drink 64-ounces of Mountain Dew as a kid.
Never had an energy drink; don't need em, don't want em.
I bought an 8-pack of these 8oz. Cokes before a 14hr. drive last Thanksgiving. Half of one was consumed during the trip. The rest of the trip was fueled by one 12z. cup of coffee and lots of water. There are still three of those cokes sitting in my fridge.
Maybe I need to buy some nice sippin' whiskey.
I seem to have an unusually high tolerance for just about everything, so it's no surprise to me that they do absolutely nothing for me. A few years ago I was on a road trip and started dozing off, so I pulled off and got a giant Red Bull. The only thing that kept me awake was the constant shock of the nasty taste every time I took a sip. As soon as the can was empty I was back to dozing off. I actually tried it again last night on my way back from St. Louis, hoping that the first time was a fluke. Nope, I was fighting to stay awake as soon as the can was empty. Luckily I was only 45 minutes from home, and fell asleep as soon as I hit the bed.
I miss good old-fasioned Jolt Cola. "All the Sugar and Twice the Caffiene".

I remember Jolt quite well. Used to slam 2 of them while installing. Jobs got done FAST! Jittery afterwards. Wonder why they killed it.
