Mrs mtn and I adopted two dogs today.
Meet Frosty and Milo. They've been together basically their whole lives. Their owners died about two months apart from each other, and for the past nine months they've been in a shelter. They're so sweet I can't imagine why no one wanted them!
Frosty is a 7-8 year old Samoyed mix. He's mostly Samoyed but we imagine something else due to his freckles.
Milo we are pretty sure is pure Great Pyrenees. He's a real sweetie with bad breath.
So far things are going good. Milo isn't eating food yet, we think due to stress, but is eating some treats. Frosty doesn't like the bed we bought him and prefers thin carpet over hardwood. Frosty is eating well but seems a little more cautious of the situation. We are real happy to have them here though. A home is not a home without a dog.
Time to stock up on lint rollers
See if frosty does better on softer surfaces after some glucosamine. Our 15 year old lab/golden mix stays on hard surfaces unless getting about 1200mg a day, then she'll use dog beds, our bed and the sofa to lounge on.

I'll go and get some and try it--he's not showing any signs of arthritis though.
In reply to mtn:
Eureka makes a vacuum designed for pet hair. We have their older model & it works well, though it looks like they're only selling a bagless model now.

We've got a shark that works pretty well for the pet hair. Considering a roomba or similar though for when we aren't at home
Awesome man, congrats! I couldn't imagine our house without our two cats and Lab/Aussie Shepherd mix, it would feel so empty.
Frosty almost looks like he could have some Aussie Shepherd in him with that bit of Merle in his coat. Hard to say though, as his features otherwise look very much Samoyed.
+1 on the glucosamine as well. My parent's Lab had similar issues with surfaces, as well as a lot of general achiness from his arthritis, and glycosamine has made 100% difference.

Heard of the story about the Roomba and midnight doggie diarrhea??
Daily brushing is recommended, maybe more during the biannual coat blow.
I will say I've seen improvement in my old dog (husky-probably lab) with 2000mg glucosamine every night.
Good on you for taking some older dogs.
Bad Breath and not eating could be signs of a dental problem.

This.
Also Great Pyranees are weird dogs. I've known two and both with run like it's a jailbreak if you let them loose. Something about their breeding, I dunno.
Good for you man, may they make your house a home.
Thanks for taking in a couple of "good ole boys"! Our resident fuzzy weirdo says "Hi"...

Milo is eating! It took mixing in some yogurt with his food but he's eating like a champ.
And yeah, Pyrenees will run. Their natural instinct is to expand their territory. And they aren't extremely obedient, again due to breeding because they need to be independent to tend to their flock.
