Musically related- I was explaining to a youthful co worker that Marilyn Manson had done his first major single as a cover of the eurhythmics. Then I realized, both the original, and Mansons cover...had come out before this kid was born.

When I read about all of those that haven't even hit the half way mark (50) and are falling apart I realize how lucky I am in my advanced age. I have started slowing down some in the last couple of years.

Yeah. He is an 800m runner at track and a winger on his travel soccer team. Running fast is what he does - I just figured he couldn't keep it up for a whole mile. I was wrong. He also beat me at a 5k by an embarrassing 6 minutes. I'm pretty sure the same thing would repeat at 10k, half or full marathon distances. Basically - if he can make it to the end he is going to be faster than my old ass. I'm going to have to hobble him if I want to win.

You should be ashamed of yourself...
You're right. Rollerblades are best pulled by a motorized landgoing boat but sadly one was not available at that time. I'll try to be more mature.
Uh, I'm 11 years past 25 and this new job is really putting my hootus in the dirt. I did nothing the past weekend but recover. Oh and I didn't get dressed until 6pm on Saturday. I had leftover pizza for lunch, followed by ice cream, followed by a beer and then a huge bowl of strawberry frosted mini wheat cereal for dinner.
Because I'm a berkeleying adult and I can do what I want
I'm north of the half century and in better shape than I was when I hit the half century. Was falling apart. Diet and exercise has put me back in better shape and some of the problems went away or decreased significantly. I know I'll never be back to the way I was at 25. I was in the army then and some of what I did led to some of the issues I have now. Have always had bad knees but running 5 miles in combat boots regularly doesn't do them any good either. Was allowed running shoes later for running, still had to march carrying rucksack several miles in boots. And I had it easy, I was in helicopters. Flew to most places but did have to do marches once in a while for "training, army training" (in Bill Murray's voice from Stripes). Spent 20 years in and felt old when I retired at age 38. Probably in the same shape now as I was when I retired from the army. I can still get up on top of the helicopters though. But can't last all night like I could when I was 25.

Tanya Harding!? Is that you
I've based my entire outlook on a Tom Petty lyric from Last Dance With Mary Jane. Because only an immature berkeleystick would do that I feel like it must be working.
Well, I don't know, but I've been told. You never slow down, you never grow old...
I'm not much past 25 and already I've had carpal tunnel bad enough for surgery, my feet ache every day (massively fallen arches) and my right knee is aching constantly from a dumb thing I did in college. Though if I think back, I had the signs of carpal tunnel since before 25, just not bad enough to ask the doc. Also around 19/20 I had to stop running due to Achilles' tendon problems that took me out of walking following a relay marathon thing. If this is 29, I'm afraid of 59.
OTOH I'm currently actively trying to get back into shape, losing some weight and eating healthier has me feeling better already after 6 months of it, but my berking knee still kills. I know a couple docs who are of course careful not to hand out diagnoses without an exam, but they seem to nod knowingly when I explain everything and say "tell your doctor." Appointment next Thursday.

I've based my outlook on a Tom Petty song too, "Freefallin'".
Pretty sure i've been 25 for the last 12 years. My knees and back are just aging while the rest of me stays 25.
I realized it the day I pulled the rod ends out of my suspension because "they make too much noise."

Had a similar experience with a fellow autocrosser when he asked about my 1987 FX16.
He said "That was before I was born".
Whaddya know. Played hockey last night, and now my shoulder is killing me. It feels like a tendon tear. I didn't have any contact with anyone, no plays that would have sparked this. It is really pretty bad. I may go see a doctor.
For me it was in the Fall of 2015 when I was on my 3rd practice run at a DH race in WV. I screwed up a jump and landed flat on my back from about 12' in the air. I could barely walk for about a month and it took another two months before I could really do anything physical again.
Did the crash stop me from riding/racing DH? No... but it definitely reminded me I'm not young anymore.
On a more positive note, I can now drive to work in the left lane going 80 MPH behind the car in front of me and not feel the need to try to pass every car to get 2 or 3 cars ahead for no real gain. 25 year old me wouldn't have done that...
I was racing BMX bikes in 18 & over expert class. There was some kinda chat in staging before a race when I realized I'd graduated college before everyone else in my moto was even born.
In reply to NOT A TA:
Fortunately, in DH racing, there are old-fart classes: 40-49 and 50+. While I raced in Expert (now Cat 1) class 15 years ago, the guys in that class didn't stop racing for over a decade, so they got fast as berk. Race courses have changed a lot since then as well. Faster & more "moto" than when I started racing. So I down-classed back to Sport/Cat-2 when I got back into it in 2014.
I'm laying here on the chiropractor's bed, a half-dozen electro-stims attached to my back as I type this.
I guess I'm old. But he says he can fix me up. Make me better. Stronger. Faster. Better-smelling.
Ok, I might have made some of that up.
A couple of weeks ago I was traveling through the Midwest on a GRM/ CMS work trip. I had a meeting in Champaign IL--- where I graduated college in.... ahem....1993. Driving around campus (which looks entirely different now) it occurred to me that I had graduated before these current students were born!
That's ok...... I can still do a killer cartwheel, and I'm full of wisdom these days. Well, maybe not wisdom, but I'm full of something!
In reply to Ian F:
They instituted older 20" classes in BMX eventually and I concentrated on cruiser at the national and world levels anyway so 20" was mostly for fun and a way to get more practice on track at nationals etc.. I'd always been a bike guy, started off racing with "10 speed" bikes in the early 70's as a kid. I'd been on MTB's from the beginning and figured I'd move into the dual slalom races. Got a carbon full suspension GT downhill bike when GT was at their peak. Then Lyme disease ended my bike racing as I was one of the early misdiagnosed cases and it got worse and worse for years. No more century rides, no more BMX racing/trails/jumping/skateparks, no more down hill or single track adventures, couldn't even ride a hybrid around the neighborhood. Eventually reduced to fetal position with encephalitis before getting meds that helped.
I'll be 59 Thurs. and just got home from a repeat blood work test I went to between my previous post and this one. Had a bad heart attack in March requiring catheter surgery to install stents. Urology issues while in the hospital required a catheter & foley. A stick in my hootus and a bag strapped to my leg for a month or so really slowed me down and curtailed a lot of activities. Blood vessels in my eyes popped in April from blood thinners I'm on now, so a month or so of no grinding, welding, or other activities that might compound that issue while healing. Now they're telling me I probably have Prostate cancer which is why the repeat on blood work. Some test where I should have about a 4 and I had 14 my first test a month ago. However, if you saw me today you'd think I was one of the healthiest people you ever saw nearing 60.
Use your active time wisely kids it doesn't last as long as you think it should. Time seems to go by faster every year. Remember how long school summer vacation seemed when you were in the 1st, 2nd, third grade?

I was happy when I could still buy stock springs for my SRT4, so I could sell the tein lowering springs to someone much younger than me. Slowing to a crawl for every expansion joint? Ain't got time for that.
Just got an email from someone I fly with, the head Instructor of the club I belong to passed away last weekend. WTH? Mid 50s, played rugby, ex-military intelligence, CFI, curled 150, did rock climbing, an EMT, Rescue Dive Team, two teenagers at home. NOT 25, but this isn't fair!
Almost 64 and I do TRX twice a week but still have some Demons, but do what you can to ward off the couch and its lure!
Perhaps the cards say you'll never see 30, who the hell knows; do what you can to fight it off tooth & nail.
That's all I got ....
I am having a hard time figuring out how my kids are older than me, 35 & 30, so I guess I haven't come to terms with the reality that I am NOT 25 anymore, that and chasing around grandkids will quickly confirm your true age. I tried to shag a ball the 6 year old hit and he beat me to it from home plate, it was out near first. I was so winded I had to rest before I could throw another pitch.
