I know there has to be a post on this book somewhere- but the search engine isn't working right this moment...

Anyway, just wanted to make sure that those of you who have not read the book, and want to (like myself) might find a paperback version of the book on the "cheap holiday options" shelves at Borders. I just got a copy for myself and my dad for about 1/2 price.

I saw it there. It's an excellent book, and I've given it to non-racer friends and family because it does one of the best jobs I've ever seen of explaining our world--not the mechanical and technical aspects, but the WHY of it.

Mrs. 914 got through the first chapter and started crying, never picked it back up. I sent it to Ian who has passed it on to many others. I wasn't surprised by the ending but couldn't figure how it would be played out.

Good stuff.

Quite possibly the most depressing book I've ever read. I didn't particuarly care for it for that reason alone.

It is really sad, but I liked it anyhow. I hear there is a movie coming?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm curious to see how it does as a movie in 2012.

that book is by far the best book I've ever read. a bit sad, yes, but I've never come across a narrator as eloquent as Enzo is, and it can be a bit academic if you really pay attention to what happens. I will see the movie if I have to kick down the door to the theater to do it.

A friend gave me a copy of this book, asked me to read it and tell him what I thought.

I ran into him at a party when I was about half way through the book. I was effusive with praise for the author. I said that it was one of the best books, on any subject, that I had ever read. The author's perception was amazing and his method of conveying his thoughts was amazing . I couldn't wait to return home and finish it.

SPOILER ALERT!

The second half of this book sucked more than anything has ever sucked before.

The storyline became unpleasant and, to my surprise, shockingly weak. The conclusion reminded me of a term paper, written by a high school sophomore who ran out of time. It was very disappointing.

I suspect that we will see one or two great novels from Garth Stein in the future, as he show great potential, based upon the first half of this book.

Try to avoid showering this book with praise simply because it has the word "Racing" in the title.

Woody, are you sure you weren't just in a state of sexual frustration, while it wasn't deep, I certainly enjoyed the entire read, and as said previously it is the best explanation to a non car guy as to why we do what we do.
