Inspired by a photo posted here a few weeks ago, I am going to check out the Fume Gorge in Franconia Notch this weekend. I was going to be in Franconia anyway, so it seemed like a must-see.
Hard to believe that this is the best photo that I can find online:

That reminds me of the gorge at Watkins Glen.

Been to the Flume Gorge many years ago,and had lots of fun. Also went to a a place in MA called Purgatory Chasm a couple of years ago,and witnessed a guy fall from a high ledge. It was really scary looking, and I think the guy later died in the hospital. The place was packed that day,and lots of people saw what happened. Getting the guy out of the chasm wasn't easy, and that may have lead to his death.
That's GORGEous!
Sorry, I can't help myself.

I posted that first pic of the Flume.
Said not to brag, but to show there are some splendid displays of Mother Nature at work all across New England. And, I've hiked around Watkins Glen SP on a cold, rainy Monday after the USGP. Both are worthy destinations.
All I can advise is to bring a camera and take lots of pics. The spring run-off through the gorge has to be awesome.
Enjoy!
