Just wondering if anyone has watched it yet? Opinions?
Wow, strange timing. I am watching it right now (about 53 minutes in) and happened to click on "Latest Topics" on the Forum. Spoiler Alert!!!!! I was really surprised at what happened to James in the tunnel and am even more surprised that he showed up later in the episode again. The guy is not a puss. I live in Winnipeg so all the winter stuff is very familiar to me. Racing on a frozen lake is huge fun, especially with studded tires but even without the studs, there's nothing like it.
As a former owner of a 1990 CQ ,2002 TT, 2013 TT and current owner of a 2007 S6 and 2017 A6 the desire to own a RS4 is very strong right now!
James just couldn't catch a break this episode. Poor guy.
I enjoyed it cause it was the guys doing their thing, but its starting to get formulaic again.
Didn't realize a new show was out. Guess I have something to watch tonight, although the shine is wearing off.
I got about 5 minutes past the tunnel before I fell asleep. Quite uncharacteristic of May. Been hanging around Hammond too long I guess.
Top Gear was apparently never as good as everyone always seems to think it was - every season was 'worse' than the last if you've been following it since the reboot about 20 years ago. Which means it peaked with the first episode, and if you've seen the first episode you know that wasn't true. Really it just had some high points and low points but nobody remembers the low points in history - just like music :)
But they were all entertaining and I do love the way the boys use language. I'll watch this one again. They seemed to legitimately be having good fun.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
I'll add that many others have attempted to replicate the formula, on both broadcast and streaming platforms, and nobody has come close to replicating it with regards to enjoyability. I feel that the secret is that the blokes genuinely like and appreciate each other a great deal, even when they are in disagreement (which is actually the litmus test with regards to genuinely liking someone). I feel that they'd enjoy cocking about with vehicles together even if they weren't handsomely compensated to do so. I also feel that they're rather indifferent, in a good way, to whatever challenges the producers concoct for them to partake in, as they know that the company will make it enjoyable if even the conditions or catering is rubbish.
I enjoyed it. That poor Evo went thru alot. Like previously said, they genuinely seem to still really enjoy what they are doing, that weight joke in the beginning that made Clarkson laugh out of character was a key point. They have fun.
I am not sure about the CGI flames for the Audi...I am curious, did they plan on having the kit and it did not film well or perform as well as they wanted? That one was kinda silly.
They got really lovely examples of all the cars.
Despite all the "we've seen all this before" feelings, it was still an enjoyable watch.
Do any of you watch any of Jame's other shows? Our Man in Japan? Our Man in Italy and so on? Very watchable stuff.....
We watched it last night. Two of my favorite cars, and an Audi, it's hard not to be unbiased, but I thought it was good, one of the better specials.
The wife said during the ski resort scenes "this is why I like this, it's like jackass with cars", and I don't really disagree.
I watched to the point where Clarkson made himself look like an idiot in the Norwegian store. Then I rolled my eyes, shut it off, and will watch it later.
I don't enjoy watching people be willfully stupid.
Clarkson coming down the ski hill towing the flaming shed was epic stuff. I found this special very enjoyable.
And yes, James and his Evo are warriors.
Watched it last night, fairly long episode. I found myself laughing more than the recent "seasons". Hammond had the WRX wagon in the other special & loved it, not surprised he went with this one. (Made me want an STI again.)
That crash was brutal, he probably didn't get down much below the 80mph they had on the GoPro.
That was excellent and shocking.
Sometimes it is obvious that things are staged for tv...but the accidents - NO. Holy crap.
Good watch. I still enjoy them. As said, the chemistry is what makes them great.
When you watch, they layed flairs in the tunnel. I assume that was braking spot. They have a shot of James going through, and looks like still on it. So, obviously, he missed the braking point. Wonder if he didnt see that? At any rate, good on no major damage to him.
