Happy Friday everyone!
This thread was down to the bottom of page 4 so I figured this was a good time for it.
I'm taking leave for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Christmas we're off and Potus tossed in Friday as a bonus so I don't have to go back to work until next Monday. Yay!
My kids are with us till Wednesday so I get a bit of time with them. Yay!
The Passat seems to be on track for repairs down in Florida so I may have a small road trip to pick it up the days after Christmas and the total bill for a complete head rebuild ought to be $300. Yay!
Annual "performance bonus" came in with Friday's paycheck. Yay!
Kids cooked us breakfast this morning and it was good. Yay!
Happy times
Barring unforeseen corporate bs performance bonus attained, top three company owned operation....woot!
One day work week
(Hey, I can be pissed I had to come in for four hours today or be stoked that I had Monday-Thurs off with pay )
Off work paid since the 18th. Second day in the garage working on my projects and still have a happy wife!
Drove the Impala to work and that "miss" I've been chasing seems to be gone with the installation of a new ignition coil (read: she's running like the day she came off the line)
great to hear … those old points, condenser, and coil ignitions were fairly simple and yet could be a PITA to solve sometimes
Got accepted to Law School and they gave me a very substantial scholarship. That, combined with my GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon means it will be completely paid for! The only debt we'll have on the back end (if any at all) will be for cost of living. The GI Bill stipend is about $10 more per month than my mortgage -- and that's the only debt we currently have. So all I really will have to pay for is food, gas, utilities, and clothes for my growing kids.
Found $94.78 in my infrequently used PayPal account. I have no idea where it came from or what it was for, but it looks like it has been in there for a while.
Anyone know what happened to Duke of Understeer? I saw his name on his thread and realized that I haven't seen him post in a long time.
Just had some great news from work today. Every year we have to do a "biometric scan" to assess our health before they renew our insurance.
Except for being borderline overweight (I am right on the number between normal and overweight with clothes on)almost everything else came back much better than normal.
My company's stock price doubled overnight the other day. Which means I can buy some new Miata suspension with the few shares I've been slowly buying through direct deposit to a sharebuilder account.
Excellent.
Dragging home the engine donor for the Fiat 850 Coupe project tonight. Not terribly exciting in itself, but I am more than ready for some work that doesn't involve rust repair right now.
All said and done it shouldn't break the bank, either. Not being broke always puts me in a good mood!
SWMBO fussed at me (very gently) that the burban hasn't been wanting to start.
Just berkelyeying great, I think, something else going bad I'll have to fix/pay for.
But when I ask more questions about what exactly it's doing it sounds like a loose battery connection so out I go into the cold. Yup, loose positive terminal. But it doesn't tighten. Crap.
So back to autozone where they had installed the new battery last spring.
Sure enough, stripped terminal in the side post battery. But it's covered by their warrantee so after we wrestle out the old bolt they install new bolts and a brand new battery and send me out the door free of charge
That wasn't too bad at all!
I finally got to drive my 1996 Civic that was stolen back in September and recovered over Christmas again! And I love it! Civic's are amazing cars, and I dislike driving my 3/4 ton in a million plus population city.
Even with gas prices being crazy low, I'll save over $1200 a year driving this thing plus keep the wear and tear off the tow truck. #winning!
Got the day off for Dr. King's day and the kids daycare is open :P
I have a date with an Alfa in the morning, Lunch with a GRMer, followed by another date with an Enfield and a Mauser at the sportsmans club.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
I hacked my Keurig coffee maker I got for Christmas so now it can make coffee with off-brand coffee pods. I fixed an opto switch pair that was not working on my pinball machine. I completed my re-wiring of my new power seat for the Mini and made the brackets to mount it and the Seahawks won with a lot of luck and by not giving up. It was a good weekend.
Some time ago I posted on here about the steering in my 4runner getting stiff. I had flushed it a couple of times and tried the Lucas magic in a bottle. It had progressively gotten worse, to the point it was almost undriveable, and was making other noises like a squealing bearing. (Its past due for a timing belt) I had been checking on the prices of racks and pumps and they were running were $300-700. I was resigning myself to a $1,000 repair bill. So I'm out looking at it again and notice I can see steel belts showing on the underside of the belt and its loose. Eureka!! Its the bloody belt! Hit up Advance Auto for a new Dayco ribbed belt, install it and it drives perfect!! I did that the day after I fixed my daily driver with a new one foot section of fuel injector hose. So I'm double dipping in karma.
My birthday today. Had the day off work. Went with pops to see "American Sniper", got home to a dinner of ribs and cornbread and SWMBO and the kids got me an Autoart 1/18 scale M3 and "The History of the MX5" for my birthday. Not a bad birthday.
