Logan's Roadhouse just terminated 18000 furloughed employees and closed 260+ restaurants.
While that certainly sucks, they are part of a group that also includes the Gordon Biersch (possibly spelled wrong) brewery chain, as well as other restuarants, that filed for bankruptcy before COVID-19 hit.

Pretty sure the forced closing was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
I got word yesterday afternoon that I was being furloughed. There wasn't enough business with everything shut down around here and they were tightening the ship up so seniority won out and all newbies got das boot (I was there 4 months). They said to check back in a month or two. I've been looking for something else anyway so this might be a blessing in disguise.
One of our largest hospitals and my largest customer just announced that they are laying off 900 employees due to financial difficulties caused by COVID 19. Upper management is taking a 20% pay cut, salaried employees are taking a 15% cut and hourly employees are being cut hours.
I have been furloughed for three weeks now. They paid us two weeks and now I have another 3 weeks of PTO to burn through.
Seniority is my biggest concern. I started this job 2/24, and we got the order to work from home on 3/16.
We had a lady start 6 weeks ago and she got furloughed last Friday. That's a tough one.
I applied for unemployment last week.
Wow. It's easier to find a job. Quarter by quarter earnings, blood type, first born's blood type, who made the suit my second grade teacher wore.....
Ok maybe not that bad but Missouri doesn't want you to file I guess.
I have never filed before, ever. But with the way things are going I though it might be a smart thing to do.
There are a few driving jobs but I am waiting until Friday to see how things are going before I apply.
UPDATE -- Unemployment decided that I wasn't working at least 2 of the 4 quarters. I was. JB Hunt paid into Missouri UI. But JB Hunt is hq'd in Arkansas. So MO says no income.
To top it off they say to appeal it then tell me it's un appealable.
Messaging is turned off and they don't answer phones.
I understand they are swamped but there should be some avenue to contact them. I did send emails to the address they gave but have little confidence they will answer.

Realistically you may be self isolating for months. Without a developed vaccine, It's anybodies guess when resumption of normal activity will occur.
Unemployment while typically modest 40% of previous income. Will be supplemented with the additional $600 per week Federal aid. Plus instead of a maximum of 6 months, the Feds add an additional 3 months.
When combined with the savings of not having to commute to and from work and any day care potential savings. With care and prudence financial survival might be possible.
I wanted to throw this question out here to everybody. I am currently on furlough from my current job. I'm looking for another full time job in the process. For application purposes, am I considered currently employed or laid off?
I would say to ask HR at the place that furloughed you. If it was between me and an interviewer, I'd tell them the truth. They (probably) won't use the furlough against you to lowball you. They have pay targets for every position and they wouldn't want prospective employees to hear that they don't pay well.
I'm extremely fortunate that my job is not only essential, it's practically recession proof. No matter what the economy does, there will always be garbage.
I'm also lucky in that a few months ago I changed positions and now I don't activily handle residential trash like I used to. I now drive a roll off truck, hauling dumpsters and trash compactors. Here's a photo I took of said truck at a scenic lookout. This dumpster sits on a barge and that's how this Marina handles it's trash from the houseboat elite that live down there year round. I have to back the truck into the water to hook up to it.
Now my wife on the other hand, hasn't been so fortunate. She's a self employed cosmetologist, and she works here in our home. About a month ago our governor (who is doing a great job during all this) shut down all hair and nail salons. Where she was unemployed we were afraid she would be SOL but they extended those benefits to self employed and gig workers too. She's had some trouble getting it processed because the last time she drew UI was before we were married, so they flagged it. Everything should be straightened out, but now we wait.
We're actually hiring here because the goober that took over my old route got himself canned. So if anyone is very desperate about work and willing to move to Central KY shoot me a PM.
In reply to BoostedBrandon :
If I had your job I'd spend more time digging through the dumpsters than hauling them.
In reply to BoostedBrandon :
My two sisters both worked for family garbage companies until WM bought them out years ago.
Moving up to the dumpsters was a big deal. No more cans to lift or load. Congratulations and stay safe.
In reply to BoostedBrandon :
Back in the '70's when we all wore cool belt buckles my sister brought me this one from her work. I thought it was cool - not sure where it went.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
We're not supposed to pilfer, and most of the stuff in there is supposed to be in there, but I've got a small toolbox in my truck that it, and all the tools in it, came from the trash.
In reply to Datsun310Guy :
Oh man. That is just too awesome. Now I'm off to eBay.
Good news yesterday. Since the new quarter started, I now qualify for unemployment!
Never though I would be happy to say that. I am supposed to go back as I am just "laid off".
The urge to find a job is pretty strong.

Service Technician at a GM dealer. Got furloughed on Monday. They had already laid off a lot of the office staff two weeks ago, then the sales staff a week ago and then Monday they went from 13 technicians to 3.
Little bit of good news: I got a text from my boss today saying "Call me please." Give him a ring and he tells me that they are bringing 4 more techs back to work and I am one of them. Even better, he is paying us our hourly rate for 40 hours or our flat-rate, whichever is higher, which is damned generous.

To be fair, it was a pretty terrible restaurant.
My buddy is BOH manager at a Texas Roadhouse in Tulsa. He said so far, they have not furloughed or laid off ANY of their staff. Some staff that have parents or a partner with income to depend on have volunteered to take less hours so those who do need it can have more/keep their existing hours. He said their delivery and curbside business is doing surprisingly well. As well as 1-2x per week they are offering "meal kits" for people to take home.
For example on Easter, you could pick up a 5 lb Prime rib, salad/sides/rolls and butter for 6 for around $70.
I've noticed many restaurants in OKC are doing similar. There are a few different mexican places doing "Take home Taco Tuesday" with fresh tortillas, salsa, pico, gauc and your choice of chicken/beef. And we are doing our best to continue to try to order from a different one of our favorite places once per week to try and help how we can.

Congrats on the good news! Has to be a huge load off.

I was actually making more money on unemployment but was going out of my damn mind having nothing to do. I was walking 5-8 miles every day just to have something to do.
