Inspired by today's question on my blog, I figured I'd bring it here.

What, in your opinion, is the most elegant car you've ever seen?

Elegant in this case, means, graceful, simple, beautiful... etc.

Personally, I make a case for this one. Hotlinked cuz that's how I roll.

Edit: Fixed!

If you're looking for elegant, I vote this.

Or this...

I thought this was always the default answer (Miata isn't elegant per se)

A lot of those Bentleys and the like don't really do it for me. They're definitely awesome, but elegant? Maybe it meets the definition, but to me, they exude too much "look at me, I have money!"

The green one Toyman posted is awesome. What is that?

V-16 Caddy.

*EDIT....I didn't go for the Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg examples (but I do like them), as they are a bit over the top flash-wise.

I always thought the SM was prettier and more elegant. Sadly, most french cars seem a bit lacking in style..

Bah, I can't think of the name of them right now.

But they are the German coachbuilder who uses BMW engines. Small little swoopy 2 seaters.

Of course the E-type comes up in this thread. I don't think they are elegant at all, they look like the parts fore & aft of the A-pillar were designed by two different people and welded together at the last minute.

For a (vaguely) similar design, give me one of these any day. In my opinion the whole car 'flows' so much better...

Please note that the above pic was shamelessly ripped from a member of another forum I visit, who spotted it sitting in a car park in Vancouver. Yes, it's a real one. Holy E36 M3!

It doesn't have to be all curves though, I think some genuinely elegant and beautiful designs have been essentially done with a ruler and a compass. For my argument, allow me to present the following:

Maybe it's just me though.

I feel the same way about the LP400/LP400S Countach, but for me, that car is more sexy (borderline slutty) than elegant.
