Mustard not the right condiment for that sandwich? How about some horseradish and beets? The two roots pair together perfectly. 

It hot, tangy, authoritative. It has presence.

And today’s lunch: Tofurky deli slices (like meatless pastrami) with Swiss, Boars Head bread and butter pickles (BOGO) and, of course, some horseradish and beets.

I like beets, but not horseradish and I like it. You should give this a try, it's not what you think. 
 

Horseradish and beets is a very common condiment in Poland. Hit up your local Polish store for some primo examples

Kielbasa and slices of hard-boiled egg on pumpernickel bread slathered with beet horseradish and spicey brown mustard. My favorite sandwich.

I remember the first time I  got a slice of beet on my Hamburger in Australia , 

No thanks !

Beets were the food your Mom made you eat when you were bad ,  then lima beans !

And the cans you made sure to put in the box for the food drive .

I love horseradish, not a big fan of beats. But if I find it locally I'll give it a try for sure. I've been pickling red onions lately as a nice addition to my sandwiches.

It's very tasty graveyard dirt.  I'll eat sliced beets like some people eat potato chips.

 

I buy beet horseradish.

100% not a beet fan (like, at all), but VikkiDp gave me a sample of this stuff (beet + horseradish paste) the last time I was in her area and it was a damn life changer.  100% importing some more when I get back next time

Make your own with actual horseradish if you want some heat to it. Not to knock the jarred stuff, but fresh grated horseradish is on a whole other level

PW makes her own oil and vinegar dressing which works just as well on cooked beets as it does any other vegetable, so in the fall and early winter, beet salad is very common in our house. As is throwing them in with other root veggies when we make roasted veggies, a staple in our house, and often my dinner when I work 12hr shifts.

I love horseraddish...but I dunno about beets.  Ill give it a go if someone has it...but I aint going to buy it to try it
