Beets taste like graveyard dirt.

The end.

I couldn't have said it any better.  cheeky

I'm in the dirt camp too.

Sadly, I can't find this anywhere locally. As a connoisseur of both picked beets and horseradish, this makes me sad.

Maybe it’s like lead and glass forming crystal. Or something like that.

Or maybe it's a physical thing like celantro - it tastes good to some people, and tastes like soap to others.

Could be cultural, too.

Since this thread first came around I have not been able to find this locally. Even though it seems right up my alley as someone who likes both beets and horseradish.

I don't think so - cilantro and it's soapy taste for those poor souls who don't like it is due to a gene that is common among those of Ashkenazi ancestry, as well as certain Asians. Beets taste like dirt to most people upon first trying it but the taste can be acquired.

I'm mainly British Isles and Norwegian but there is some German mixed in, maybe that's where I get it from.  (and I've lived happily without cilantro, thank you very much.  smiley)

Or just a matter of taste.

My youngest cousin, who grew up with me like a sister, HATES beets.  I can't get enough of them.

"They taste like dirt!"

"Yes but it's tasty dirt."

OTOH, I also enjoy a good Malört and tonic.  And aqvavit.
