So, I recently finally found a helmet for auto-x. Not what I wanted, but it was about the only one that fit. I ended up having to special order a 3XL (yes, really) Shoei motorcycle helmet. Sure, it's M2010 rated, so it'll be good for a long time to come, but i'm a little perturbed. I can't seen to find ANYONE that makes a 3XL SA2010 rated helmet. I've checked Arai, Bell, Simpson, Impact, Stilo (!), HJC, Zero9, everyone you can think of. Does such a critter exist? The Shoei is LITERALLY the only one I found, at any price.

Just like my dad. About 5 years ago he got a motorcycle (after a 30 year break since the last one) and he could only find 1 full face helmet that would fit his quite large head. It was also the holy-crap package expensive one. I think he, too, is a 3XL. My head is smaller, luckily, but not by much... I've only found a handful of hats that I can wear...

I've been modifying 2XL helmets for a long time now, I haven't tried looking for a helmet that fits me in almost a decade.

Modifying in what sense? I'd consider something like that if it wasn't too scary.

Taking some foam out isn't too bad. I have a 2X and my face is too wide, so I had to cut out some of the cheek pad foam.

YMMV.

Scottish accent required:

Stuart Mackenzie: Look at the size of that boy's heed.

Tony Giardino: Shhh!

Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, it's like an orange on a toothpick.

Tony Giardino: Shhh, you're going to give the boy a complex.

Stuart Mackenzie: Well, that's a huge noggin. That's a virtual planetoid.

Tony Giardino: Shh!

Stuart Mackenzie: Has it's own weather system.

Tony Giardino: Sh, sh, shh.

Stuart Mackenzie: HEAD! MOVE!

Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Now that was offside, wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.

I love it! And the only baseball caps that will fit us are the L/XL Flexfit hats!

I also have an enormous head. These stories make me feel slightly less like a freak.

Me too. I was shocked to find out the motorcycle in store had a 3xl in stock. It was an HJC IIRC, and was ONLY DOT rated so that was a no go. The guy was smart enough to know that he'd just sold a 3xl Shoei though, and knew he could get another one. I was getting ready to grind off part of my skull.

I've pretty much got an XL head. My 7-year old's head is almost as big as mine. I worry about him.

That is awesome. I would have been fired if I had worked with that guy...

I modified my RF1000 by shaving the cheekpads and chinbar. I have to flex the helmet significantly to get it over my temples, where the only way to make it larger would be to cut the shell (rendering the helmet useless.)
