Not according to the Central Market near me.
Central Market= high falutin', hoity, toity market with loads of strange fruits both on the shelves and walking the aisles.
We had four varieties mid-summer; the one that was best was the purple skin with the red flesh. The others were pretty meh. Plum and apricot confirmed. Also called dinosaur eggs.
I find them remarkably inconsistent. The first time I had one it was amazing, sweet, a perfect combination of the best qualities of each fruit. The next time I bought some they had thick, bitter skins, and a weird grainy texture. I wonder if there are different strains being marketed under this name, or a sudden increase in popularity has led to a lowering of growing standards. In any case, if you tried them and didn't like them, they might be worth another try from a different source.
