I missed a buck just a few days ago; he didn't have any signs to read.
The damn fool had already crossed the road when I saw half his body sticking out from the foliage. Hit the brakes, nearly stopped, honked the horn and he decided it was wiser(?) to go back to where he came from. Deer are stoopid...........
This happens every year and I'm in suburban Atlanta.

Mental note, get a large cat.

Pave the road and lose the big cat (although we do have a cougar pair that visit us periodically) and that's what I go through every evening.

Try hitting a cow, or even a calf. I have seen a calf total out a mid 80's Olds Delta 88. Like undriveable.
i once saw an '01 Chevy 2500HD 4X4 that hit a cow head on at 60mph... the radiator support and everything bolted to it was embedded in the firewall, the intake manifold on the 6.0 was torn off, the cab was pushed back about a foot, and both doors were thrown off.. the guy walked away, but the truck was junk- and it smelled like hamburgers on the grill from all the flesh that got cooked on the exhaust..
I have never personally hit a deer (knock on wood) but have seen the aftermath many times. Had a co worker whose brandy new Ranger pickup was totaled by a Bambi at ~ 50 MPH. The deer hit the front right corner of the cab (standard cab truck) and literally flattened it, knocked out every piece of glass except the driver's door glass. She was on the driver's side so escaped without a scratch.

That... Was... Aaawesome...
I've only had glancing blows so far, including one on a bike. How I managed to keep it upright is beyond me. I've seen too much at the track (thankfully only cars) to even bother remembering all of the cars that I've seen messed up on the road.
More reason to expand hunting.
