I realize that Google ads are often tied to your browser history. A month ago my parents were looking at buying a car, so my dad sent me the link to the ad. Ever since then, I see that dealership's ad every day--usually several times per day. In fact, I just saw it on our home page.
A lot of internet ads are based on auction prices. And I'll bet the dealership decided you were a very high-profit, high-probability target so they're spending some money on you. Google's just one of the ad exchanges.

I'm still getting the Porsche ads.
Maybe its because I watched the Chris Harris review of the new GT3 about a dozen times?
If I have a sudden windfall, Porsche...I PROMISE, I will give you guys a call.
After my post asking about digital SLR's, checking eBay and Amazon I can't go any where on the web without being bombarded by SLUR ad's

I see a tire rack ad and some ESPN ad for what I'm guessing is an insignificant British sport that nobody knows the rules to.
I am getting all sorts of ads from Land Rover now.....

chrome incognito mode FTW
Google still thinks I need help getting a boner.
That's why I block all ads on all pages. I can't stand them, and the tech is there to make it happen. Personally, I wish there were an ad-free version of this site for magazine subscribers. Hell, I'd pay $10 for a year of ad-free GRM forums.
ads on the internet are a pain sometimes... one of my friends thinks that he's being clever when he posts profanity laced rants to the facebook pages of companies that place ads on his facebook page... then he wonders why his facebook wall is plastered with more and more paid ads every day...

I don't get any ads when I visit GRM forum .... the closest thing to an ad that I see is the subscribe / sample for the mag. at the top of each page
Dude, teh Firefox ad-blocker, yo!

Yep. Ad-blocker. I don't get any ads here at all.
Facebook... now that's a different story. I am so berkleying sick of seeing: "single dads looking for faithful women"... or "housewife discovers miraculous wrinkle cure".
I don't click on stuff like that, why on earth are they targeting me?
Crikey, if I was gonna go trolling, it wouldn't be for single dads!! LOL. Maybe "filthy rich old farts about to kick the bucket..."
Ad-blocker for the win. Browsing has been pure bliss since I discovered that handy little tool.
One out of two isn't bad. I've got "old fart" down pretty well....
[sigh!] ....but my pocketbook will never impress Lesley.
[It's OK...I could never convince you to leave Canukistan for the Land of Scaley Creatures, anyway.

It's re targeting. It's not based on the browser history, it's based on you clicking the link to that exact ad. It buries a cookie pretty deep, tied to that dealer. Usually it's a 90 day campaign, then it will go away.
Nope. We can target you based on things you search for too. You'd be amazed how granular we can get with how we target consumers. Age, sex, demographics, commercial intent, interests based on previous search terms, income etc.

I keep getting a SAAB ad. Dead link. Great use of marketing budget for that dealership.
