The reaction is priceless

The red-bellied black snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus) is a species of elapid snake native to eastern Australia. Though its venom is capable of causing significant morbidity, a bite from it is not generally fatal and less venomous than other deadly Australian snakes.
I'm tired of these motherberkeleying Snakes!
On this motherberkeleying Pl...er...windshield!
Hit the mother berkeleying wipers!
Nowhere near as good as the reaction I saw a gangsta kid have to a very dead snake in a university bio lab. I honestly think he might have soiled himself a little bit.

My point is that there are venomous critters that it is less dangerous to handle. Twice I've caught and handled wild coral snakes with my bare hands. (Once at an MSCC autocross so nobody would kill him with a tire iron.) They have some pretty strong venom, but they are non-aggressive with tiny fangs at the BACK of their mouths.
Locally, the coral snake is the venomous critter I'm willing to catch. I would not handle a rattlesnake or a water mocassin that way. (Especially not the mocassin...very aggressive.) If I were in Australia, the "It's poisonous, but nobody dies from the bite" snake would probably be similar...
Edit: I might not have handled the coral snakes if I had known that we've stopped making antivenom
Snakes, the one animal on this planet that sends me running and screaming as fast and loud as I can. I cannot begin to describe my reactions to a live snake. I can deal with dead snakes a tiny bit better, but not much.

+1
The only good snake is a size 12 snake.
Years ago, I had a pair of water moccasin cowboy boots.
We had a family party in October and we were picking pumpkins. A garden snake slithered out of the patch so I picked him up.
You would have thought I was handling a King Cobra the way that all the girls reacted. I wanted my wife to pet him and she ran the fastest I've ever seen her run.
I am not at all afraid of snakes. Have handled them from the time I was very young. However, now living in SoFla, I am much more cautious. I know what the bad ones look like and definitely give them a wide berth. Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, no way I will get close.

Jeez. I'd say that those are drinking draws with eyes but I think drinking straws have probably injured/killed more people.
I used to love finding those things when I was a kid.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's seen that. I actually sat through the whole movie to that point ON TV, just to see how they'd do that line.
I like snakes, and have a few in the house:
But venemous snakes are a different game...when I hear a rattler, I'm grasping for guns before I even know where it is
I've had a few pythons. Had to get rid of them after Chuck got bit. I love finding garden snakes or little rare earth snakes. Cute little buggars.
our local oddballs are the brahminy blind snakes...they're all female(!!!)
I once found one in my carport
I recently moved to SoCal from NYC, and started running on the trails in the hills around here. In the five months I've been running out here, I've come across two Southern Pacific rattlesnakes, and a non-poisonous California King snake. One rattler I didn't see until I had passed over, thankfully it had its mouth full of mouse at the time, didn't even rattle at me. The second I saw when I was still a good 10' away. I love snakes, but both encounters found me cursing the poor thing for surprising the crap out of me.
Runner's brain + poisonous things that look like the common stick = oh crap!!

You can tell they're females because they're apparently attracted to money.

Now that you mention it, I wonder why nobody has photographed one next to overpriced shoes
