I love how proud they seem to be that THEIR reporter managed to flip the thing over. It's almost like they took it as a personal challenge after catching that sound bite. I wonder why they cut straight to the pictures of the sidebound truck? I was hoping we'd get to see how he did it.
Why do I have the feeling that after Lockheed's investigation, they deem that it was 100% driver error and had NOTHING to do with the vehicle itself?
And our government will take it hook, line and sinker and still place a huge order.

Are you kidding "hard to tip over"??!! LOOK at the thing. Imagine the added weight of a 30 cal on the roof and tell me how it CAN'T tip over!

I hate to admit that this is true
Well, they're probably better than the current Humvees with their armor. Have you ever seen one with the new retrofit and the 400 pound doors (4 inches of glass that will stop almost anything)?
I have a friend who is very lucky to be alive today. He was a turret gunner in one of the heavy armor Humvees in Iraq last year. They were rear ended by a bus in their convoy while they were stationary. The driver had the wheels turned to the left, so when the bus hit (and it hit hard) the thing moved forward and left and immediately flipped over. It rolled twice. Of 170 rollovers in Iraq in those things, he was the 43 turret gunner to not get killed (he was hardly injured). Usually you get crushed or cut in half. The Humvee was not designed to carry armor. I think he would welcome anything that has a bit more stability.
The up armored HMMVs are starting to experience frame issues. They're just not designed for all that weight.

I was thinking the same thing. The story was boring, but her tits were riveting.
Not good: it's hard to build a vehicle with the standoff clearance (for mine/IED protection) they need, the long travel, low spring rate they want for high speed off road riding, and still minimize body motion/roll. I wonder how this event will impact the JLTV competition....

If the Army considers 24,000 pounds a light vehicle they must be taking notes from Chrysler.
Also, this could very well be driver error. I've been to a few vehicle launches and some of the non-enthusiast reporters are spectacularly awful drivers. At the launch for the Evo 8 MR the auto reviewer from one metro paper I won't name actually declined to drive the car because he was afraid of it (in his defense he was about 112 years old).
The voiceover says the driver 'cleared the hill and turned'. Attaway, big guy; get the thing all light on its feet then yank the wheel one way or another. Then look all shocked as the vehicle rolls over.
What an idiot. [Per, we really need a 'rolleyes' emoticon.]
As far as the vehicle, at least it seems better than the swingaxle M151 'Mutt' that replaced the olde tyme Jeep. That thing was DEADLY in the wrong hands.
hey they make these right next to me! And that's my poor local news channel...
I'm gonna keep my eyes out for the news reader chick on the streets....
Ouch, first Owego gets screwed with loosing the Pres. Chopper, and now this cluster berkeley due to a dumbass reporter...
On a side note, the Asian reporter News 10 sent out for my B-I-L's funeral was hotter
Did you notice a seat belt anywhere?
I just received a video of a test fire at 88' elevation, gun was almost straight up. The ground was dry and hard so when it fired, the recoil drove it into the dirt (cement like) and the thing jumped 5" in the air and tipped over! You hear a lot of hooting and hollering in the background.
I don't think I can post it yet, but you may see it on Tube someday.

At :52 (and 1:03) you can see it over his shoulder(s). They're probably a 5-point harness
