I've spotted what I believe to be bald eagles hanging around my yard in the past few weeks. They have been repopulating in my area in recent years, but it's cool to see them. Every time I try and take a picture, they shriek and take off, as if they are telling me they have way too much FREEDOM to have their picture taken. laugh

Never heard of a hawk attacking people... but it's a problem in my son's neighborhood.  His wife is urging him to build an enclosure for their dogs to be alone in the back yard without being carried away.

It's possible that they may attack small pets, but they aren't going to be able to carry them away -  hawks only weigh a couple pounds themselves, so they aren't going to be able to take off with even the tiniest Chihuahua.  http://www.10000birds.com/can-a-hawk-carry-off-your-12-pound-pet.htm  I did, however, see a hawk grab a pigeon once...I was out in the front yard talking to my neighbor one day, and there was a pigeon standing about 20 feet away.  All of a sudden a hawk divebombed down out of the sky and that pigeon was gone, there was nothing left except for a couple feathers.

Around my house they just eat the squirrels where they catch them.

We have 8-12 deer in our area that lounge in our yard. No dogs around to chase them off, we routinely get about 15' away.

The county fair had a rabbit break out from the 4H pens a few years ago, so we have a "healthy" mix of wild and domestic rabbits around all the time. Our cat is a good hunter and he figured out that he could catch a rabbit, take it live into the fenced garden area for safe keeping, then come back and hunt it again.

Lots of bald eagles here, they do carry off the yip yip dogs.

Someone released six turkeys in our little town as a joke. Nobody could ever catch them, but it was fun watching them try.

The hawk has been hanging around for the last couple of days. He sitting in the oak tree behind my house at the moment. There looks to be another one circling overhead judging by the calls I keep hearing. I'm wondering if this is a mating pair looking for a place to build a nest.

That would be pretty cool.
