My 16 year old son has a college recruiting showcase coming up in a few weeks in the Boston area. We'll be flying into Logan and will be with our rental car by 11am. The showcase doesn't start until the next day, so we have all day to kill. What fun things can you New England folks recommend for us to do? I know there is a K1 Speed kart track in the Boston area, so that is definitely a possibility, but looking for other ideas. Open to pretty much any suggestion, as we need to fill our day.
We all get together some place and have a beer!!!! Not sure what is or will be open around here by then.
Ok Why SKJJS and not Klayfish? Totally confused me for a moment.
Yes, I've heard that "Stage 3" is supposed to take effect this week. Fingers are crossed that they do proceed forward, because this college showcase depends on them doing so. I've already bought airplane tickets, booked hotel and rental car, so I'm really hoping this pulls through. We'll be in Marlborough, MA specifically. I know there's a car museum up there called Larz Anderson, but their website says they're closed due to COVID. Maybe they'll reopen? Just looking for something to do.
As for the name change, some big changes in my life coming, which I'll post about later. So it prompted a name change.

I got kicked out of the Boston Tea Party back in 1999 or so for being too disruptive. The irony was lost on the dude pretending to be a revolutionary.
As a kid I liked the Salem witch house. Haven't been there for decades. Not sure I'd recommend it for you and your son unless one or both of you has an unusually strong interest in witch history.
How about the USS Constitution? Probably closed. Interesting to see it though. Lots of history around Boston.
Since you mention Marlboro, next town over has Collings Foundation. Not sure what, if any will be open, but they have a huge military museum, hangar with various cool aircraft/race cars, and another couple barns of classic cars.
Not sure what's open right now due to the pandemic, but there are at least two cool car museums in MA that I know of:
Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline: A rich guy named Larz Andreson and his wife donated their land to the City of Brookline upon their death, and on that land was their carriage house. The home was demolished in the 60's and turned into a park, but their "quaint" (aka HUGE) carriage house still stands today. It's 2 floors of both their cars from the very early days of the automobile and some rotating exhibit cars. There's even a vintage garage in the basement. Cool spot for sure.
Heritage Museum in Sandwich MA: This is on Cape Cod, but not too far over the bridge. It's a huge, sprawling estate that's on a lake, and they have a really cool car museum on the property. Stuff ranges from a Mercer Runabout to some 60's musclecar stuff. Plus, you can get seafood somewhere local at one of the many clam shacks down there, if that's your thing.
EDIT: they are both closed until further notice. Bummer.

I like your style tj. We tried Mosque dancing in Spain back in the 80s. That did not go over well. Now that we are responsible adults we need to party some time. We will just have to give our wives the bail money before we go out.
Oh I know go see the old north bridge in concord. Yes it is a little campy but it is cool and a ton of history at that place. Also outdoors so should be open.
Everything I'd do in Boston would be seeing history stuff from the revolutionary war, or visiting places I've seen in Fallout 4.

I have a family membership to that. Super cool place. Love going over there. Found this walking around there grounds the other weekend (daughter back from college is in the photo).
photo inside never seen one of these in person
there is so much to see there you can spend a whole day there and not see everything
this next photo is less than half of the place

Having grown up in this town Fallout 4 is better.
Marlboro is only a 15-20 min ride from me depending on where you are staying.
Lahbsta Roll and a Cannoli.
I thought of one other thing I'd do. I'd visit the home of the best radio show in the history of the world.
Ugh, no seafood. Neither my son nor I like it. He's a burger guy, so we'll be looking for a place to grab a good burger.
Yeah, from what I've seen the car museums in the area are closed due to COVID. However, MA is going to Stage 3 reopening this week from what I understand, so maybe that'll allow them to reopen.
Really open to any ideas. I'm kind of wishing I had booked a later flight in so that I didn't have to try to find a day to kill, but I want to turn it into something fun. Maybe the Duck Boat tour?
You want Bovas not Mikes. I had an office in the north end for 18 years. Trust me on this.
Best Berger I know of that is not a fancy over priced gourmet burger is at Rossini's in concord. Ma. I will gladly take you and your son there. My son and I have tried many a burger around the area and it is the one that my son compares all the others do. Great quality meat. Not a doctored up burger.
Dang, this thread made me think about lobster rolls again. I just had one on my birthday and now I want more.
Duck boat tour is decent to get a quick little tour but I remember it being surprisingly short.
The museum of contemporary art on the harbor is pretty epic if you are in that area.
This sugestion is a little different, but my wife and I like dorky tourist stuff. We did a harbor tour that was a little different. CODZILLA. It's a 2,800 HP speed boat that does hairpins and 360's out in the harbor while looking for / running from "Codzilla". They have a guarantee that if you get back to the dock without getting wet, you get your money back. My wife and I sat on the front row and had a blast!
Skip Mikes, it's just not that good. I always wondered how they got the reputation they did, there are far better bakeries in the North End than Mikes

Hey, I like that CODZILLA idea. He may just enjoy something like that.
Until you said no seafood I was going to suggest a drive to Cape Cod.
The revolution stuff in Boston is pretty cool. Lots of outdoor stuff to walk around and see. Easy to spend an afternoon doing that. It's also neat/wierd to be in downtown Boston and not hear interstate traffic. One consequence of the big dig is the city is not divided by interstate.
Otherwise remember that NE is really tiny. Franconia notch and MT Washington auto road are about a 2hr drive from Boston. Well worth it to me.
