I'll be there this coming weekend to pick up my TVR, and will probably have some free time the latter part of the day on Saturday. Anything in particular to do? Good places to eat/drink? Anything?

We go a few times a year to see friends. The Mariners Museum is pretty neat and depending on how you're driving in or out the Cheasapeake Bay bridge tunnel is a nice ride.
As yup says, there is nothing really to do in Chesapeake itself, but lots to do in the area.
The Mariners Museum is pretty good as Wall-e said above. The Virginia Air and Space Center is not too bad if you are looking to kill some time. There is Doumars where they claim to have invented the ice cream cone. (I like the actual BBQ better at Pierce's Pitt, but Doumar's is a neat place to go.) There is Fort Monroe and Jamestown and Yorktown and if you like more modern era history, Nauticus. This list can keep going if you are interested in US history type stuff. Very rich area for things to do and see.
If you want to relax with nature, I'd head to Back Bay (and False Cape State Park) and enjoy the undeveloped beach.
Thanks guys. I'm picking up the car in Chesapeake. Actually somewhat south of the city, and I'm picking it up Saturday afternoon. I'm coming from Ohio, and I'm not too keen on dragging a car on a trailer much out off the route I'm already on. So I guess I'll rephrase my question to ask what is the shortest distance I'll have to go to get some good food, drink, and if I'm lucky live music?
Bumping this back to the top. I lived in the area for about 7 years, but haven't spent much time there since 2009.
It's way out of your way but if you're travel with little kids we bring my friend's kids down to Grave Digger's shop to go for monster truck rides.
In reply to Wall-e:
Ooh, I went past that back in May on the way to the beach. In spite of my incessant pleading, SWMBO refused to stop for a monster truck ride
In reply to bravenrace:
If you'll be in Richmond, Va Saturday afternoon on your way back there are several breweries to hit up, or some good food places in carytown. If I had the 65 mustang in town id offer to dd.
Maybe an impromptu grm meet? Was talking to jtspells about it too. I have space to park a truck and trailer at my house for an hour or two, and we could also take the tvr off it and drive around if you're feeling brave :).

I won't be heading home until Sunday. I will be going thru/around Richmond, but will be on a pretty tight schedule. still, we may have time to make a quick stop if it doesn't take us out of our way too far. TVR isn't driveable, unfortunately. But let me know if you want to meet up somewhere. I can't promise anything, but I'll try.
In reply to Wall-e:
Lucky bastard
And speaking of TVRs, I came across this one yesterday and of course immediately thought of Bravenrace. Anyone else looking?

I tried to buy that car for three months, but the owner is a nut case. I finally gave up and found a car that is 70% what this one is and is $10k cheaper.
There should be plenty of places with live music in the area, especially if you head over to the beach. I don't know about you, but Virginia Beach in the summer is a place I always tried to avoid. What type of music are you looking for?
Southern Chesapeake is pretty much farmland with some bedroom subdivisions. Where are you staying? That would help narrow things down a little.
Okay, that's Greenbrier, which is suburban mall-land and mostly mediocre chain restaurants. There is a Surf Rider at 725 Eden Way North - less than 2 miles from your hotel. Get the crabcakes and the steamed broccoli. The fried flounder is also usually pretty good. No music but Surf Rider is regularly ranked in the top tier of local seafood joints.
You will be only about 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk, which gives you myriad choices for food and nightlife, but there's no way I'd drag a trailer there.
We usually stay somewhere in that circle depending on where we get a deal. It's nice enough and should be easy to get in and out of with a trailer.
I'm in for something on Sunday, what time will you be passing through? Will make a separate post for the details.
In reply to Flynlow:
That's kind of the problem,as I don't know. We're picking the car up on Saturday, but because I can't secure all the spare parts, we're going back Sunday morning to pick up the parts. Not sure at this point what time I can do that or how long it will take. I may not know until Saturday evening. I know we will be leaving Chesapeake sometime in the morning, but that's all I know right now. Can you guys work with not knowing what time for sure until Saturday night?
You'll need to log in to post.
