I'm about to update from a PS3 and I'm in a similar boat.

The two consoles are very similar, I'm considering the XB1 mostly because of Forza, since Gran Turismo seems to be developed on a geological timescale.

I chose the PS3 because of the free internet, of course that doesn't matter anymore. There are exclusive games to each, and I felt the exclusive Sony games were the ones I wanted more. Uncharted anyone?

I'll probably go with the PS4 because I previously had a PS2 and PS3. Brand loyalty I guess.

I don't think there is a wrong answer here.

Remembering Neverwinter Nights on my old PC made me wonder what games are close, for either system? It was based on current AD&D rules, classes etc. It seemed like more than the average fighter/wizard/cleric fight and find E36 M3 game. I admit I've never tried Evercrack or any other online game.

You still don't need to pay to play on the playstation network. Did they change it for Xbox Live?

And some one else eluded that Fallout 4 is only on Xbone, it's on both consoles and PC as well.

I'm waiting for Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront, and No Man's Sky. The first two will be across all platforms but if you like space exploration, the latter will be a PS4 exclusive. But then again so will be Halo 5 for the XBoner. My wife even played Halo in college and asked why I bought a PS4 over an Xbone. I said it was because of Destiny (PS4 only).

That's how I picked, platform exclusives. And my one local friend that plays vids has a PS4.

I've never played it, but they released a version of Neverwinter on Xbox earlier this year. I'll give it a try tonight once I get off work, since it's showing free on XBL right now.

Thanks! That may be enought to sway me to the Microsoft side again. And if Forza is as cool as everyone says...

I've got a long history with the PS platform, so I'll probably go PS4. Xbox users swear by the Xbox controller, but it's very uncomfortable and unnatural to me.

Is Project CARS as good as Forza is supposed to be?

+1,000,000 on the controller. I dislike the asymmetrical layout of the XB controller. I'm glad Sony kept the layout but finally improved the ergonomics with the ps4.

Yes. Project Cars and Asetto Corsa (PC only) are widely regarded as the two best driving sims available.

I've never played Neverwinter, but after reading about it, it seems a lot like Diablo and Dungeon Siege. Looks like Dungeon Siege 3 is on the Xbox Market Place for download, and both Diablo III and Reaper of Souls are available on both the Xbox and Playstation platforms.

Dragon Age Inquisition is on both consoles as well.

Bethesda says they're not remastering Skyrim for the current consoles, but it is/was so popular, it's gotta be one of the 360 titles that will be playable on the Xbox One after the update.

While I'm a huge Diablo fan, more the original, and D2 LOD, I can't really wrap my head around a RPG on a console, they're PC only games to me.

Please explain this.

I have read that for both XB1 and PS4 you are required to have a subscription (around $50/year) to play anything online (most all games now have some online component). Are you referring to just using the console offline?

I don't know about the PS4, but PS3 access to the PSN is still free as long as you have an internet connection (obviously).

You're correct, you do need to buy a subscription to PS Plus if you want to play online on PS4.

You can also get Destiny on Xbone, the PS4 guys just got some exclusive content.

Sony changed the system for the PS4. Basic download/streaming is free, online gaming is payed. Same as XBL Silver/Gold.

Throw away your video games, and go work on your car.

If I were to pick one, I'd go with the Xbox One. Here's why:

I have a 360 and a PS3. The PS3 is my main media hub, and it does all my video streaming stuff. Heck, it even has Spotify now. It also plays my PS1 collection, too, not to mention the excellent library of games made for the PS3. Since buying it a couple years ago, it gets a lot more use than my 360. And for the record, I really like GT6; it's the best GT game since 2!

The PS4 doesn't have any exclusive "killer apps" yet that make it a necessary purchase over the One. The One, on the other hand, has Forza 5 and 6 among many other great games, and more are coming out soon, like the new Halo.

I also like the social aspect of some of the features on the One. You can make short video clips of funny things you do during a game. This is especially hilarious for GTA V stuff. And since they are bringing backwards compatibility with some of the more popular 360 titles, I give it the upper hand right now.

C/N: Get a Xbox One, and a PS3.

How big is the PS4's hard drive?

SWMBO got me the Xbox One for Christmas last year. My Xbox only has a 500 Gb hard drive, I think there are larger ones now (1 Tb?). I installed Halo 5 last night, bought the disc, still took 2+ hours to download and install 9 Gb of updates. I checked, and found out my hard drive is 63% full, I own 3 games on disc, and have downloaded 3 other free games, 6 games total, plus some apps, Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, ESPN, etc. and the OS. I've used well over half my hard drive.

Long term, I'm not sure even the 1 Tb version of the Xbox has enough storage for a casual gamer, let alone a hard core gamer.

I guess I'm going to have to buy an external hard drive for my game console.

They offer a 500GB and 1TB drive on the One, and I think it's the same deal on the PS4.

I'm curious about the "special editions". Looks like fancy smancy cases and controllers, and a game. Hm, but a Star Wars edition would look pretty sweet with my memorabilia right next to it...

I just read up on swapping in a 1TB hard drive in the PS4. It's 15 minutes with a screw driver and a new 2.5" SATA drive that need to be less than 9.5mm tall. The real time is reloading everything.

Looking at some of the 'how-to's, I bet if you cut away the metal cage holding the drive, you could get a bigger drive.

Coming from a total nerd: the PS4 is the technically superior gaming system (this is a fact based on hard specs, nothing else) and is a great choice if you like Japanese games, indie titles, and so forth.

The XB1 was designed as a media system first and is probably a better choice if you like western games, sports games and AAA Call Of The Battlefield Extreme Mountain Dew Ops-type games.

Both have plenty of great titles including racing games, but I am a die-hard JRPG fan and love weird imports so I bought the PS4. Also play a lot of Destiny, which has more content on PS4.

Hardware wise they are even pretty much the same, plus PSN is a paid subscription service now so that too is a wash. I won't buy a ps4, Sony lost me with their complete lack of security and having a PS3 shaped brick sitting at home.

The one has 3 or 4 usb 3.0 ports intended to add external hard drives to it, also, when installing games from a disc, for the love of God, disconnect it from the Internet. If connected to the Internet, it will download the entire thing. Disconnected it will rip from the disc itself and take a few minutes.

No experience with either of the current-gen consoles, but we have a PS3 that has absolutely been through the wars and is still ticking. My son, now 15, got into gaming when he was about 10 and has put thousands and thousands of hours on that thing. We've had to take the cover off and blow dust out of it a couple of times, but other than that, it's a tank. When I originally bought it in 2008 or so, it was mainly as a blu-ray player. We stuck with it because of the free online gaming aspect. We do have a 360 that we got probably 4 years ago now, but it mostly collects dust.

So, the boy is now considering whether he wants to save up for a PS4 or have me help him build a budget gaming PC. Needless to say, I'd prefer the latter. But a lot of his friends are on PS3s and transitioning to PS4s. So I can understand the desire to be able to play with them.

Anyhow, I'm rambling. I think in most cases like this, it's a good idea to go where the market share is. In this case, that means PS4.
