A coach is being formally investigated for bullying because his football team played too well. Yup, a parent of one of the loosing players said the coach should have done more to prevent a lopsided win. HUH? WHAT?!

Bunch of Bob Costas. If you don't want to lose, don't play.

I thought bit was going to be youth football with 7 year old players when I clicked the link...wrong. high school.

That's what happens when you make stupid feel good laws instead of applying common sense and existing laws to an issue.

I don't think the problem is with bullying laws, they have validity, especially in the modern world with rampant sexting and cyber bullying. The problem here is a parent. The school is going to investigate as they are obligated to, but nothing will come of it.

I'm just waiting for a parent to complain that a coach was bullying the kids for chewing their asses out for losing so badly.

Complaining about getting your ass handed to you by a better team/player at something has never made much sense to me. I LOVE getting to spar against much higher-ranked/more skilled Kendo players- I get wailed on left and right, but I learn a LOT about the weaknesses in my own skills and have to push myself even harder to try and keep up. What's that saying? You learn more from failure than success...

My highschools soccer team beat a team something like 15-1, first game of the season against a team that was playing its first game ever. Their soccer program was just started that year. Our coach kept in the starters and told the players to give it everything. It was very unsportsmanlike and the team and coach got rightly chewed out by our athletic director.

The team in the story had already benched it starters and the opposing coach even said it didn't look like they were trying to rack up the score.

Coach pulled first string after 21 plays and tried to run the clock as fast as he could.

I'm all for protecting kids from bullying, but this wasn't the case here. I hope it doesn't get to the no tolerance rule like they have for so many other things.

That's what I thought when the story started.

You clearly don't belong in our society. You should really stop looking for areas where you can improve yourself. Instead you should start demanding that everyone else bring themselves down to your level.

In reply to Fritzsch: I agree completely. The laws/rules are not the problem here. It's the parent. I think the coach should sue the parent for defamation of character or something like that. I'm not a fan of frivolous lawsuits or anything, but this parent could stand to learn a lesson. How much tax payer money is he/she costing the state, and is there going to be a permanent ding on the coach's record for being investigated for bullying?

Wonder what that parent would have done had they been around for my school's 96 game losing streak spanning 4 or 5 seasons in basketball.

Sounds like my college's football record. The band's favorite chant was, "That's all right, that's OK, you're going to work for us some day!"

(yes, we were an engineering school where the athletes had to meet all the same academic requirements that the rest of the school did)

WARNING: TREADJACK & POSSIBLE FLOUNDER! I hate high school football. I think its the biggest waste of taxpayer money that a local government could ever create for it's citizens.

I know in states like Texass I could be jailed for that statement, but I stand firmly by it.

If youth football were funded entirely by private money, I'd see no problem with that. Same goes for other inherently costly sports like hockey.

Back on topic, I see no bullying here. Get over it.

Same thing could be said again High School bands. Annoyingly I never seem to end up in these highly subsidized activities.

My son plays youth football. One night, they got to go to the high school teams' game. They were losing 40-0....at half time. I don't recall hearing parents whining...but it only takes one.

Please don't show this to the Jacksonville Jaguars...they may file a grievance soon.

How does it never occur to people that the "stop bullying" campaigns simply become(or are) bullying most of the time... Or worse... angry mobs...

I think people are going to get pretty tired of being bullied by "anti bullies"...

Lets get rid of the band, the drama club, the orchestra and all that artsy crap while we're at it. What a waste of taxpayers money.

I find you aggressive stance on "anti bullying" intimidating and I think you should stop. I think your behavior can be considered bullying and should not be allowed as we have a zero tolerance for that sort of thing.

Just say not to anti-bullying bullying bullying.

Apples != Oranges

Those things you mention are the first things to go when cuts come down but they are arguably more contributory to an education. I'm not oppsed at all to athletics... but they always cling to the most expensive one that excludes all females and no man plays as an adult. It's ridiculous.
