I had an interesting situation today that in the 6 years of working for the cable company I have never come across.
So lets say you have some form of TV service (cable or dish) and you decide your bill is too high and you want to go to someone cheaper. However, you are about to leave for 6 months to go somewhere warmer.
Would you:
A) Cancel your service and wait to get something new when you get back?
B) Have your service put on vacation hold?
Or
C) Cancel old service and get new service 4 days before you leave (for 6 months), so your house sitter can watch cable when they stop by to check on the place?
You can probably guess what situation I dealt with.

Trade it for a pile of parts that might make an awesome Challenge car?
I had a customer that was going to cancel cable TV, keep cable internet, and then get satellite TV. All because her cable bill was too high. Problem is in a few months when all the promotions ran out, her combined cable and satellite bills would be the same amount her cable internet and tv bill is now.
Ditch TV all together and never get it back.
Internet service via cable company, plus one of those magical internet streamy boxes hooked to your TV. I'm watching Eureka that way right now.
I vote Internet with no tv service. We have been doing that for months now with little inconvenience. There are plenty of ways to get content for a lot cheaper/free that will save you a minimum of 30 bucks a month over basic cable.
If nothing else, you cancel everything and they offer youu a smoking deal to get you back. In my case free cable for 6 months. Twice.
