Resistance is futile! You will join the real world sooner or later.

Once again I am just amazed at how simple things have become. It's wonderous just to be able to point your car in a direction and get where you want to go with a minimum of muss, fuss, and hassle.

No on the road drama. No having to pull into the Norman Bates hotel anymore. No being stranded on the road with no gas or no food. No missing off the highway attractions.

I've found you can search for historical sites or even just type in the word fun and it shows everything close to the road you are on that you might want to do.

We are visiting some of the mansions of N.O. area today that came up when we typed in fun. It no longer takes weeks of planning and you are less likely to miss the attractions this way. Trips can be fun and spontaneous again.

Hmmmm, I never said your name. I never pointed a finger at anyone specifically, but still you recognized that you don't know all you need to know. Isn't that the first step in all those 12 step programs?

Hey, and ignorant is all right. Stupid is a problem. We are all ignorant about things we don't deal with often. The trick is to never stop learning. Building walls around ourselves only leads to missing out on all the good stuff going on around us.

Can't resist either: Yea, people who have their heads buried in their smartphones texting instead of talking to their friends they're standing in front of totally doesn't build walls

Man, seriously, that comment is in good fun, there's no need to get wound up. Just an observation.

"...just type in the word fun..."

There are no hard feelings here. I have really enjoyed reading this stuff.

There's another of those stereotypes again that you are using to justify your inactions. But you are right in that it's crazy when that happens.

I'm ignernt! I come to this and other forums to learn. I am always amazed at what serendipitous information arrives along with the data I thought I was seeking. I try to take it and run with it, not hide from it.

And while you say you were just talking "in jest" I don't sense that to be the case, based upon earlier posts.

What I was saying originally before the thread was taken off track, was that I was truly amazed at how technology had snuck up on me was enriching a portion of my life and making things possible that couldn't otherwise happen without a lot of labor and time. It's really cool how our lives can be improved by the simple things.

We look towards the future and we focus on the big things, but it's the little things that really make the future.

Enjoy it, embrace the change, it will lead you into the future and you'll wonder how you ever did without all these little things.

Now I've got to get back on the road.

I'm happy that your life is so incredibly complex and random that you need a little gadget to run your life.

But your arguments that your life is so much better with this technolgy isn't compelling enough to get one.

Seriously, you have not made a single new point that shows that a smart phone is that important to living. Your $10 saved on gas helps pay the extra money a month to have the phone, sure.

Thankfully, I seem to manage my life just fine without one. Planning ahead a little prevents a lot of the "what are we going to do" aspect of needing this tech. It does not take but a simple search at home to provide a few options of where you are going, thus saving. Saving what? Whatever you feel- attention, money, space, time, however you want to look at not being connected 24/7.

But as long as you feel so superior to the rest of us, that's your issue.

In reply to alfadriver:

Obviously you are superior to us because you don't need one. Good for you. Although I don't think anyone argued that any of us "need" one. We all just enjoy them and take advantage of some of the latest technology. The cost is worth it for most of us.

REALLY? That's not how I read "You'll join the real world sooner or later", and then expounding on how out of date non-smart phone users are. I have a smart phone. It does what I need, but I leave it at home on most of my (non-business) road trips.
.09/gallon saved per tank? What is that...$1.20?

In any case, when I travel for business, I appreciate the efficiency of the phone. But given a choice I prefer a world where I don't "NEED" to be "connected" 24/7.

An interesting exercise would be to see how many of you prefer light, basic simple cars rather than the feature laden, life enriching ;) modern stuff....

I truly have zero use for one and can't imagine ever needing one...

if this situation ever changes I'll do my best to get in touch with you and tell you you were right ... until then give it a break .... ok ... ?
