I didn't read his FB page as I am not a participant but I found this link to what the news thinks is crazy talk from the guy: http://wtvr.com/2012/08/21/full-text-brandon-raubs-proclamation-take-our-republic-back/

If that is enough to get you put in the nut house - this board is probably about to be involved in a massive sweep operation.

Imagine what sort of message a diesel miata sends if that is "crazy talk".

Dude is a little paranoid. Locking him up for his thoughts...that should help. He should be far less paranoid about the government now.

As usual I am going to go out on a limb and say there was probably much more to this than FB posts.

A judge disagrees.

Giant Purple Snorklewacker wrote: From today's news: HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – A Hopewell circuit court judge has ordered that a Marine veteran detained over anti-government Facebook posts be released from a psychiatric hospital. CBS 6 News’ Catie Beck said the Judge Allan Sharrett dismissed the case Thursday against Brandon Raub. The judge said the original petition for Raub’s detention contained no facts. In other words, there was no information on why Raub was being held — and the judge deemed this violated his civil liberties. As a result, the judge ruled the government had no grounds to hold Raub. The judge says there were no facts in the original petition. He does not say who filed the petition or what was contained in it.

Might want to pull yer horns back in till The Smoking Gun releases copies of the actual petition so the actual allegations are revealed.

No horns - a judge released him after determining there was no reason to hold him. That is a fact. I'm not speculating on whether he is crazy. He didn't do anything directly illegal or he would have been charged with a crime so "threats" that were eluded to from his FB posts were not really threats.

I am very interested to see what they had - a little transparency from the feds would be nice. If he was making people uncomfortable and they did this as a reaction then I hope he sues the bejezus out of them. If they had some defendable position then - out with it already.

You are exactly right. But there's still the unfortunate (in this case) 'medical privacy' statute. They may not be able to release that information. Now, Brandon Raub can release it if he so chooses.

I don't always wait until page 7 to post, but when I do, it's always on page 7.

I don't think they can detain me for that. Yet.

Well, not exactly. The fact is that the petition did not have pertinent information in it. That doesn't mean that there is no reason to hold him, just that the petition did not have that information if it exists. It could be there's no reason or it could be a clerical error. Lots of people are released on the basis of clerical errors by police or prosecutors.

I'm personally glad to see a judge stand up and say "To arrest^ someone you have to have a valid legal reason." Personally, I hope Mr Raub enjoys a nice paycheck from the FBI, CIA, etc. We'll pay it as taxpayers which riles me but maybe it will make those agencies think twice before taking another step in the direction of a police state. We don't have a KGB yet.

^ - legally I know it wasn't an arrest. I will say if it walks like a duck, quakes like a duck, it's a duck. I'm not splitting hairs here for the sake of lawyers or to give the government cover. White is not a darker shade of black.
