Damn. First they complained because the tank was in the back, but you move it and they impound the car. Just can't win.

Was the gas tank even strapped down at all, or just resting on top of the tire?

I've seen a lot worse. Hell, I've driven worse.

Maybe it was only a test drive. C'mon, we've all done that.

I don't see the problem, he even went through the trouble of using a gas tank, it's not like he had a five gallon pail or a couple Miracle Whip jars.

Good god, it took me a couple of passes through those photos to realize that the oddly-textured material on the floor boards was actually the asphalt under the car.

Would you say this car is Unsafe at Any Speed?

In reply to peter:

I'm sure it's unsafe at every speed. Was that a fuel pump screwed to the door?

Yes, it is. It's one of those Facet 'clicker' pumps.

He was probably just trying to get his Lemons project home to start prepping it for a race.

Bah, just a copycat. My uncle did this back in 2007, only his version was better since he used propane.

I once heard a story - may have been on here - about someone sputtering home a big 'ol Ameribarge with a bad carb by pinching the fuel line and pointing it at the intake

Ive done that. I used the washer motor and a jerry can to get home after the fuel pump crapped out on a logging road.

Was it a bumper-height issue?

I'd say that car is unsafe when parked, too!

Probably sitting that way because the front ends of the leaf springs broke through the floor. Even I wouldn't drive that thing.

Don't know what's scarier, the floor or the fuel "system"

Yeah. It's a question of, how would you prefer to go? Dragged under your own car or in an enormous fireball? Perhaps some combination of both. No thanks.
