POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Two girls were struck and killed by an Amtrak train while playing a game called 'Ghost Train.'

The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a railroad crossing near Poplar Bluff in southeast Missouri.

Authorities say five teens were in a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the tracks as an Amtrak train approached a crossing.

Authorities say the teenagers were playing a game called "Ghost Train," in which a car is parked on the tracks purportedly awaiting a "ghost train" that wrecked many years ago.

During the game, players let the windows fog up to intensify the eerie setting.

And, if a real train approaches, they drive off.

Family members say the girls had played the game many times before.

But this time, the Jeep wouldn't start.

Three of the girls managed to get out of the Jeep in time.

But 2 of the girls, 15-year-old Victoria Swanson and 17-year-old Haley Whitmer, apparently panicked and could get their seatbelts unfastened.

The driver of the car, Kaitlyn Fowler, went back to help and was also struck.

She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Well, you never know unless you try it. The survivors will likely play something with less dangerous ghosts next time. Ghost Feather Pillow or something.

Does this mean the "click-it or ticket" campaign is working?

Really? Really? They knew about this and didn't think to explain the stupidity and lack of sense that accompanies it?

I read a news story some years ago about something similar happening, except it was without a Jeep, and add a bridge. Somewhere many years ago, a train was crossing a bridge when it collapsed, sending the train into a valley and killing everyone.

A story sprang up where if you went out to the new trestle on the anniversary of the crash, at the time of the crash you could hear screeching or screaming or something. Whatever.

A group of people were out there that night, on a full moon when all of a sudden they heard something, problem was, it was a real freaking train. Most of the group (14 or so) was able to run off the end of the bridge and avoid certain death, however one decided to jump, and one didn't make it and was struck by the train.

See kids? Smoking is bad for you.

I'll see if I can dig up that story.

Who says they didn't?

Maybe, if kids listened to their parents the first, or second, or twelfth time...

That's were someone should have said, "Well, you're too berkeleying stupid to drive anymore. Gimmie the keys to the Jeep."

I just figured they asked the survivors if they'd done it before.

So, these girls are too dumb to not get killed by a train, and are killed by a train

OK, so the killed-by-a-train girls are now no longer able to breed babies also too dumb to not get killed by a train...

OR MORE IMPORTANTLY - THEY CANNOT BREED BABIES TOO DUMB TO NOT GET MY KIDS KILLED BY A TRAIN

...so, whats the problem again?

^^^ I don't really feel my sadness for the people involved. I do for the parents, even though they raised idiots, they still feel like the rest of us.

I'm glad that they panicked and could get their seat belts unlatched.

I'm more mournful for the survivors of the incident and the families of the deceased than the deceased themselves. The survivors have to deal with the guilt that they killed their friends, and the families are now having to deal with something families shouldn't have to deal with. As for the kids that died, well, that's what happens when you do stupid things.

I didn't. No offense, but if you had died doing those stupid things, I wouldn't have mourned your death either.

Getting all compassionate and heart ache-y and "rip" about stupid people doing stupid things and DIEING as a result of said stupidity is... wait for it....

stupid.

it's easy to be heartless towards people you never met.. especially when they died doing something stupid. Sadly, kids will be kids and they all think they are immortal until they get old enough to know better.

I feel bad for the families involved.. but really, no amount of teaching could have stopped this.. those kids were in the midst of a "can't happen to me" mentality

Nah, I just decided to actually respond to this thread. I'm not going to really let my views on this be known here, because it would be a tebowing flounder.
