My friend's kids are doing a Flat Stanley project at school. Instead of mailing the little guys to me they sent a picture of them for me to print. Sure it's faster but it doesn't seem right that the actual Stanley's aren't really traveling.

I'll agree, it seems like cheating but a good use of technology.
Is this how the school does it each year, or is this a reaction to the Corona Virus?
That's not Flat Stanley traveling, that's cloning Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley Prime won't have the travel experiences of Flat Stanley 2, unless the Flat Stanleys have some terrifying hivemind intellect, in which case, we are in serious trouble.

As I sometimes do, I read this to my wife.
"Is this GRM?"
"Of course!"
"I love these people."
I mean if it was Flat Spock or Flat Captain Kirk we'd just assume they were using the teleporter, right?
Its only "teleporting" if (to use Nick's terminology), Flat Stanley prime is destroyed the instant Flat Stanley 2 is created.

Maybe they upload the DHF into the stack of Flat Stanley 2 and then either incinerate or resell Flat Stanley Prime to a sleeve merchant.
In reply to No Time :
They mailed them to my parents by mistake and they weren't going to get it to me soon enough.

This is the problem I had, the Stanley is supposed to go out and about. Just deploying an army of fakes seems to lose something.
But, but, but, you're supposed to take pictures of Flat Stanley in a variety of (compromising) places. This will not do at all!
In reply to SkinnyG :
I just printed them last night, tomorrow they're coming to work with, then we're going to take a bucket of quarters to Peep World.
It's totally cheating.
Just out of curiosity, who invented Flat Stanley? I bet if you dig deep enough, you could trace it back to the US Postal Service, looking for a way to increase demand.
Oh, shoot. Looks like the "Flat Stanley Project" was started by some grade school teacher up in Canuckistan. Wonder if he had ties to Canada Post?
Maybe GRM needs a version of this to right this wrong? One flat( ? ) passed around the country through members and pictures posted on the board to document his or her's travels.

Your not alone, I never heard of this before either
Both my kids (now 18 and 14) did old-school Flat Stanleys. I sent this thread to AngryWife, and here's how that went:
we are a good match. :-)
In reply to AngryCorvair :
I like how your wife thinks. We got the whole convoluted story today and it turns out the kids did send them, but sent them to my father instead of me. Dad was going to bring them up Saturday when he visited his cousin in the nut hut but since they weren't allowing visitors and I was stuck at work late they didn't come. It seems it was either this or Dad was taking flip phone pics at the various old folks homes and dialysis centers he hits during the week. Since they're not originals they will probably meet a gruesome end. I've got a very angry German paper shredder in the office.
