Nope. I would not give my child a .40 cal if she has "never fired a gun" and told her to protect herself. Rooms have windows, which become doors if you want to get the berkeley out in a hurry.
Why does a 12 year old have access to a loaded and cocked Glock? It would be different if she said something more like-"my parents and I have spent a lot if time at the range to prepare myself for just such an incident."
That's quite an assumption that her leaving is "in plain view of an intruder". Especially since she had to take a detour to get the parent's gun in the first place.

Lots of variables, but when someone is banging on one door and there is a way out into a populated neighborhood at the other end of the house, that could be the best plan...get outside screaming bloody murder as you go.
