I am looking for a grassroot priced tablet, so the one I have been thinking about picking up is the Acer Iconia 8GB,

what does the GRM brain trust think of it, or recomend?

What are you going to be doing with said tablet?

I have a Vizio VTAB1008 i've been thinking of selling.

Otherwise, i really like the Asus EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEpad Transformer.

Oh ok, so she doesn't need anything serious. This would be perfect. I'll send you a PM in a little bit.

I have one too. I wish they were a little more sturdy so I could use it more for work.

I'm hiding mine in a Jegs catalog. I cut out a bunch of pages. I was never told I couldn't use a personal device, just playing it safe.

I like the idea of a tablet hidden in a catalog/book like thing.

ive got a $100 HP touchpad, and updated the OS following step by step tutorials online (people also put Android OS on it, but i havent done that yet). gf wanted an ipad, i got her the HP and saved a bunch of money, and shes happy with it, it does all the basic facebook/surfing/etc stuff she wanted it for. At this point, you'd only be able to find the touchpad used on craigslist, but still, i think theyre a good buy for the money. i'd pick up another if i find one for 100ish again.

I picked up a Asus EEE Transformer last week and love it. Not exactly grassroots though at close to $400.

I also picked up a couple of Pandigital Novas for the kids. We've got a 5 hour flight coming up in a couple of weeks and hauling a bunch of books would be a pain. They were $140 and seem to work pretty good so far. They are an older Android platform that gives you most of the good stuff more modern tablets do. Most of what they will use will be the readers, games and a little internet. They do have HDMI, USB and Micro SD capability as well a camera front and rear. For the money, they aren't too bad.

Why not a Kindle Fire? They are cheap.

I keep circling tablets, and keep ending up back at the ipad.

I don't want to spend time hotrodding my tablet. Or my phone for that matter (and I have an andriod phone). I just want it to work. I'd rather waste time twiddling my car or riding my motorcycle.

I play with various android and other based tablets at the store, and none of them measure up to that blasted ipad. True, it's bulky, but I like that amount of size. I don't need things like a cd or dvd player in my tablet, nor many ports. If it can see my router, that's really all I need from it. I like the speed of the ipad, and its screen. Yes, it's expensive compared to bottom line android tablets and the like. But it runs circles around them. And now it's not particularly expensive compared to the good android tablets.

There is one android tablet that strikes me as interesting, and it's one that you can get a keyboard with a battery pack in it, and a hinge. Gives you something like 20 hours of run time with the keyboard plugged in. That's pretty interesting. Though I can't see when I would really need that much battery run time.

I really like the iPad my mother got me for Christmas. I wasn't something I wouldn't have bought for myself but it makes getting online as close to instant as it gets. lots of cool apps. A lot of which are free. Even one called "AutoXLoger".

Really like my Nook Tablet. Not as many apps to explore but it is Android based so it can be rooted if need be. Got it with my educator's discount for 169.99 (8gb version). Has mini SD card slot as well. Great screen, easy on the eyes. Computer chess game kicks my a$$ however!

I have the A100. It's not great. The battery life is somewhat (but not exceedingly) short, and I find the screen a little annoying - drags often become taps. I also don't like that the USB port doesn't charge it. It did just get the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

On the upside, it's fairly responsive, the camera is pretty okay, and

Best Buy is silly high on this tablet. The replacement was announced last week, and the internet will sell you one at $200 or less.

my wife has a kindle fire and does most of her inter-webbing on it... one day I'll get around to rooting it and installing google marketplace so she can use a decent browser on it...

I use it from time to time but find it a smidge small... I've spent a few hrs playing with a friends samsung (same size as the transformer prime) and really like it... being that most of my text books can be bought in digital format at a significant decrease in price I may use that as an excuse to buy one... my kindle (a real e-ink not that LCD crap) is great for traditional book type reading but sux for text books.
