TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!

I was checking the status of an order last night and saw they were RSVP'ng for fans to watch episode 1 tonight on an early release. So I signed up. The rest are up Thursday night I believe.

I am stoked!

First episode over. Ho.  Le. Crap. So many little nuggets for the hardcore fans. Not sure it's "plain" enough for the masses.

It's......ok.

Not bad but very dense and a bit weird. I loved the games but I imagine someone who hasn't played them to have about 5 WTF moments a minute

Some people wouldn't be happy with a winning lotto ticket. They will always be upset about something. I enjoyed it, and yeah I had to explain a bit to the wife while watching.

there's lots of little eggs all over for the fans. First episodes are always tough, walking that line of explaining the backstory while it getting into the weeds. I thought they did a good job overall and am waiting for the rest to drop.

2 episodes in, I liked it, my girlfriend liked it enough that she won't let me watch it without her, although she did need some context on a few things. I like that they kept the fallout music throughout, would have been sad if not

In reply to bobzilla :

I am interested. I was slightly concerned when they bumped released day UP, not used to seeing that.

I think I'm gonna let you watch it first for a full review, because in Fallout related stuff, I feel I can trust your opinion more than any of the Internet review places.

My wife and I watched the first episode last night. I really enjoyed it as it scratched that itch. My wife even enjoyed it too even though she's never played any of the games before.

Really, I'm just happy we have something we can watch together after work. smiley

My spoiler-free review so far?

Overall, feels lore-friendly but I wouldn't say it's 100% lore-accurate–and that's fine, because you can only do so much in re-creating a fictional universe in the real world.

If you really love the O.G. Fallout games like 1 and 2, you probably won't enjoy it as much. If you (like me) came into the series around 3, New Vegas or 4, you'll probably enjoy it.

Late to the game, never played the ...uh... game, I enjoy sci fi stuff in general, would I probably like this?  Always looking for more stuff to watch.

Do a little reading on the fallout story, and I think you'd like it.

The fallout world diverges from ours in the early 50's, they never develop microchips and stay with tube type electronics but figure out fusion for power. In 2077, atomic bombs drop all over the world, ending humanity as we know it. A company called Vault-Tec has built huge vaults across the country to house people in fall out shelters for them to survive until the radiation subsides. Not all of the vaults are what they seem and there's some serious moral issues with VT as a whole. Most games and this series are taking place 200 years after the bombs dropped. The world outside has raiders (think gangs but more violent), ghouls (humans that changed from the radiation), and several different factions like the Brotherhood of Steel (who use verti-birds and power armor), NCR (New California Republic), the Enclave (remnants of the old world leadership/tech) etc.

It's a fun time. The games are good and immersive.

I watched about the first 40 minutes of episode one but I was dozing off and really needed to go to bed.

I enjoyed what I saw and I am excited to rewatch it in totality again this weekend.

Side note, based on my experience with the game series (as well as trying to be the least spoiler-y of the game series as possible), my personal head canon is that VT was behind the bombs being dropped *just* so they vaults would be put into use.

You had me at the first sentence.  I love What if/alternate reality stuff, Sliders used to be one of my favorite shows.  Have to add this to my weekend watchlist.

We saw a trailer for it the other day and it looks interesting.

I've never played the Fallout series, and to be honest, I'm not going to read about the backstory of a video game.

Would we still enjoy it?

I'm the same way and I've played Fallout for the same reason.

It's definitely worth a watch, I'm hoping it picks up a bit after episode 2

If it looks interesting, giving the first episode a watch can't hurt.

Given that there is 27 years of the game (Fallout 1 released Sept. 30th 1997) and they *can* pull lore / canon from as much or as little as they wish to, its difficult to say 'If you enjoy *this show* then you'll enjoy *this show*'

I just read the Wikipedia page for both the show and the game, because I love origins and backstories.  I'm ready to watch this weekend.

I feel like when I was waiting for Fallout 3 and they made Fallout Tactics instead.  Meh, but I'll play through it once.

Funny because I said something similar to the wife but said the original Xbox Brotherhood of Steel game and not Tactics.

I don't want to do spoilers, so keeping it vague I'll say the main characters weren't likable to me at all which is weird because I think it's vital for a game based TV series/movie. You play the character in the game so it's hard if you don't like them.

I was very happy with the world they created and how it looked though.
