So I go in for hernia surgery in less than a week, sounds like it will be a grand time. It will be nice to have it fixed though, as I've been dealing with it for nearly a decade. Any words of wisdom from those who have been there, done that?
Any ideas for good epic/sci-fi series I should watch in my down time? Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly are already in my collection so something else.
I think this clip sums it up best:

I haven't but about 15 years ago my dad had it done. He tore it unloading a trailer at work, and put off the surgery for a few months trying to tough it out. If I remember right they put a piece of screen inside the tear, and once it healed up he was good as new nd has had no more trouble with it. Good Luck

I had this done about ten years ago. It's no sweat routine surgery, small incision w/ mesh inserted, home that afternoon and good meds for the duration. Listen to the doc and don't exert yourself.... I thought I could drive after a few or so days... but no way. This is the best time of year to have it done too as you're not missin' anything outdoors, relax & enjoy your time off... it might be one of the few times people will actually wait on you. Get your 'recovery zone' (TV, laptop, etc.) comfortably set up before the surgery, you can fine tune it later. Sounds like you have the rest figured out. Good luck.
Hope it goes well and if there's anything I can do just let me know Jacques.
I had mine done many years ago. No big deal. I couldn't lift anything heavy for a couple months. Since then no problems.
Netflix has lots of Star Trek movies if you're into that sort of thing.
They give you the first month as a free trial too.
ROBOTECH, I have the first three in the series. great show

I had it done two years ago. I don't know why, because I didn't even know I had a problem. If you hear the words "Minimally Invasive", don't believe it. I look like I have a smile instead of a belt line. Some nonsense about it was much worse than they thought, yada, yada, yada. They cut me open like a pinata. It took about four months to feel decent enough to start doing some exercising. Outside healed up nice and quick, but inside took a whole lot longer. Don't rush it!!! If they tell you 2-3 months, believe it. Just because you start to feel better earlier, if you reopen inside, you'll pay dearly.

I had the left side done 9 years ago, need to go in for the right soon. First time, I was in a LOT of pain before the operation. Had it done in a very good hospital, next one will be Cleveland Clinic, the best hospital in Florida. After the first one, I was down, really down, for a week. Two weeks I was back to work, being careful. I am totally convinced that healing time is totally dependent on the quality of the mechanic (surgeon). Three years ago, I had a cancerous kidney removed at Cleveland Clinic, via robotics. Very small small incisions, doc's hands never entered my body. Quick heal time because of the small incisions. Except for a bad reaction to Hydrocodone, a very pleasant experience. Again, thoroughly check out the facility and the doctor. It can make a big difference. Wonder what Doc Hess has to say about this?
I thought someone had seriously hijacked my thread... but then I re-read the title
Well I had the surgery this morning. Feeling a lot better than I thought I would, if a bit woozy. Now if only I could pee.....
I had one in my groin area. Had surgery back in 1999 and they put in some kind of mesh to hold it in. I haven't had a problem since.
I had both sides done about 5 years ago. It's obvious different folks have had different experiences. I couldn't climb the stairs for a week, so slept on a bed in the den. It was very painful getting out of bed and getting up off the toilet was all but impossible. We got a couple of stout racks to locate on both sides of the toilet so I could use my arms to lift myself. I missed two weeks of work, but have been fine since. My boss had his done a couple of years ago and only missed 2 days. Your experience may vary ! Hope you're feeling better.
I just had a umbilical hernia fixed. It wasn't bad. The worst part afterward was tying my shoes, damn that hurt. I finally figured out that if I did it laying on my side on the bed it was okay. I hate pain meds, it's a combination of being in 'The Matrix', nausea and everyone talking like Charlie Brown's teacher. I have known people who liked pain pills so much they would buy leftover pills for a dollar a pop.
The inguinal (sp?) is the one near Little Jimmy and the Twins, now that's the one that will put you out of commission for a couple of months.
Inguinal is the kind I had fixed.
It's been a week and all I can say is ow. Unfortunately i had to have a catheter put in the evening after the surgery. That was 3 days I never wanna live again .

That's what mine was too. Just plan on six weeks before you really start feeling good, but be careful you don't overdo it. The best part was having a personal servant for a while," Honey, I can't reach the remote". I milked that routine for all I could. I think it lasted about 3 hours.
