Hey Grassroots Motorsports community,
I'm gearing up for my first autocross event and could use some advice. Here are a few tips I've gathered so far:
- Preparation: Make sure your car is in good condition. Check tire pressure, fluids, and brakes.
- Walk the Course: Familiarize yourself with the layout before the event starts.
- Start Slow: Focus on smooth driving rather than speed. Precision is key.
- Learn from Others: Watch more experienced drivers and ask for tips.
Any other pointers or common mistakes to avoid? Looking forward to your insights!
Best,
Duke

Remember that scoring is based on your fastest single lap, so take your first and second lap to make sure you have the course down and can control the car. If you start off at 100% you're bound to miss a gate or cone on every run and DNF the whole day...that's never fun
Make friends! Talk the the guy with the cool car! Everyone is friendly and would love to talk cars and racing!
Point 5 above!!!
In addition, volunteer to work the course. It's good manners, and might even be required. On that note, ask to work a heat before you run. it allows you to see the course being run from up close. Might help you with the tricky corners.
