Build the Volt, build it now, and build it right. If you stumble, falter, or drop the ball on this one, Toyota will beat you to it - I promise.

"If some Silicone Valley start-up can do it, don't let anyone tell you that you can't anymore".

And don't scrap it even if gas drops to $1.00 a gallon again! We want alternatives!

This sign should be hanging over every door in GM:

"Good Enough Isn't. Stop Making Crap."

they're screwed. Hybrid Fit will hurt them. Articles i've seen says $12k for a Hybrid honda fit. Beat that.

$12k for a hybrid Fit? That is insane. Of course, if you read it on the internet...

Last I heard, we may not even get the Fit Hybrid. The new Prius-fighter from Honda will be priced about $18k and drop early next year, then the CR-Z hybrid.

I just saw a writeup on the new Fit Sport, priced at $16070(plus destination, I'm sure). Do you think they could/would sell the hybrid for less?

It's probably all for naught. Read some of the excellent editorials here The Truth About Cars. GM is done, as in "stick a fork in it". What comes out of the backside of a bankruptcy or bailout is impossible to predict.

"Build it right" A VERY good idea,

"build it right now" how often have you been able to go from thought/plan to reality, nearly overnight? Pretty much ANY new car takes time to produce, and even more time to produce CORRECTLY. Give GM a bit of a break....at least they are finally recognizing that a hybrid is a good idea.

And finally, "...........don't scrap it even if gas falls to $1.00 a gallon again." WHAT A DREAM. I suspect we won't see gas fall to much under $2.75 a gallon, EVER AGAIN. But we can dream.

I think you mean "Silicon" Valley, which is where Tesla is located. "Silicone" Valley typically refers to the Los Angeles area.

New study came out. LA isn't as high on the plastic surgery per capita ranks as originally thought. SF and Sac are number 1 and 3. LA is in, like, the 30s.

You do realize that they are already working on the Volt...right? That's why you've heard of it, they're the ones pushing it to the media, not the media/masses pushing it to GM. As far as building it "now" I think that's a bit optimistic if you mean release it now, if you mean be working on it now then they're way ahead of you. If you're referring to Tesla as the start up car, they have had a horrible launch so far, such a horrible launch would mean immediate plug-pulling for a company like GM. Fortunately for Tesla, they're in a unique position to have a small group of very motivated buyers/investors who are willing to work with them and be flexible and a small group of cars to retrofit with updated parts as well as a small geographic area to cover for said updates. I think the car is awesome, but to compare a very limited production (very expensive) sports car to something put out for the masses by a huge company like GM is kind of apples and oranges. I'm very anxious for the Volt to come, but as others have said I DO NOT want GM to rush it. Take your time fellas, I'm ok waiting an extra year to let you get things right, I want this thing to go off smooth as butta to help ensure a better future for EVs and plug-in hybrids.

ignorant...how could a hybrid Fit would be cheaper than regular ol' Fit is? Especially with the weak US dollar, prices are going UP with future releases, not down.

Easy. Use my tax dollars to subsidize the damn things. Hell, I'm already subsidizing Prii and E85.

Ya know what chapped my ass Saturday? I paid $3.45/gal for 87 octane. Two pumps over, some assclown was filling his Suburban with E85 for $3.09. Of course, that's with my tax $ adding a $1.50 per gallon ethanol subsidy.

It's old but thats the reports I was mentioning for the $12k fit.

looks like it may not be viable now, ehhh.. I'll wait for a clean diesel 2.0 thank you very much.

if it weren't for lazy ass union shiny happy persons GM prolly wouldn't be in this position right now. I forgot to mention the total crap they built in the 80s didn't help, it also doesn't help that many people still have the mindset that GM still does build crap which they don't.

I wish I could make $20+/hr screwing in stereo speakers without a high school education and receive full benefits...well then again I might slice my wrist from the fact I'm doing the same repetitive motion 40 hours a week.

Bitter much? Do you know the guy or just figure he's an assclown because he's filling his Suburban with E85? Keep in mind that he's still paying more for fuel even though he's paying less per gallon because you get about 25% fewer miles per gallon using E85. Looks like ignorant is referencing some very dated info anyway. There are still tax rebates for hybrids...my girlfriend has been really wanting a new Vue hybrid with the "employee price" sale going on. $21.5k after the sale price and tax rebates for a pretty nice crossover that gets an epa rated 25/32 is a hell of a good deal IMO. Only hang up for us is that it's a FWD crossover. The hybrid family cars (Aura/Mailbu) are even lower prices, great deals, but having no kids and preferring sporty cars, the family-mobiles aren't really what we're looking for. If you had a family or prefer a bit more sedate daily driver, though...fantastic value. Ditto for the 'vette, with this sale you can get a base Coupe for $40k brand spankin' new, that's a heck of a car for $40k.

hey atleast I had a source.

The last reports I saw said that it would be $200 over the price of a regular fit, but may not bring it over now. Honda better do something.. as they built 60k pilots for sale in Q2 and sold 10k wh00ps.
