I've spent my week here. Leaving in the morning. I didn't get to check out anything in the city at all. Worked 12hr days and only got to see it at night. I did take a little drive around Wednesday night, mainly around Des Plaines. As an outsider looking in it very much reminds me of my hometown. From the way People drive to the general attitudes of the people I encountered it's a very familiar feeling. I'm not at all a city person but I've had a very pleasant stay. The People I worked with this week were all top notch. It's been a good week but I can't wait to get back home to the woods. I would certainly consider coming back sometime when I'm not working and the pandemic is behind us to actually check it out.
Thanks for your hospitality.
I love being in a place where I am not from when it includes nice folk. Where I am currently from, people are generally considered callous until you know them...and they accept you.

I'm not sure where the food came from, the plant engineer brought us lunch every day but all of it was excellent. In the evenings I just hit the usual fast food places because of the work schedule. No real time to enjoy anything.
In reply to Nick Comstock :
Yeah - 12 hour days leave little time if you want to rest up for the next day.
I probably drove though Des Plaines several times during your stay, so I'll assume that any compliments about the way people drive in our area were directed at me. On the other hand, if some jerk in a blue Legacy cut you up in traffic, that was definitely not me. :-)
Pew-pew. We'll get you next time.

Did you see the original McDonalds (meaning first franchised McDonald's) or the leaning tower of Niles?
Next time you're here, hopefully we're not in the worst wave of the pandemic and can grab a beer.
In reply to mtn :
For sure, next time. There was a lot I was wanting to see/ do. Didn't work out this trip.
In reply to Appleseed :
Surprisingly no one evne attempted to murderape me...
In reply to flat4_5spd :
I was more impressed with the pace. Fast for surface streets is how I would describe it.

Yup.
Been gone for years.
I feel like McDonald's leaving an abandoned, stripped lot in their wake says something about McDonald's or our society, but I'm not sure quite what!

Huh, totally missed that they tore it down. Meh, it was a replica anyway.

The 1000th location is in Des Plaines on Oakton if you need more useless trivia.
