TIL that jumping the shark isn't an impressive feat like when Fonzie jumped the shark on Happy Days but a feeble attempt to revitalize a TV show's tired plot line. Like when Dallas's Bobby Ewing comes back from the dead or Days of Our Lives' Marlena Evens turns into a possessed witch.

Wait... did hte article say it was 3800lbs? 573hp and 3800lbs? Sounds like a Camaro ZL1 only 5 times as much. I don't get it. At the price point of the old NSX ($80k), that would be impressive-ish. But at $180k? It sounds just like the old NSX. Too much money, not enough performance. What's the new Z06? 3400lbs with 650hp for $80k? For that extra $100k you could have a FLEET of hybrids for the daily commute/crosscountry trek.

Once again, Honda has jumped the shark IMO.

Wikipedia.org: Jumping the shark

The idiom "jumping the shark" or "jump the shark" is a term that is used to argue that a creative work or entity has reached a point in which it has exhausted its core intent and is introducing new ideas that are discordant with, or an extreme exaggeration of, its original purpose. The phrase was coined in 1985 by radio personality Jon Hein in response to a 1977 episode from the fifth season of the American sitcom Happy Days, in which the character of Fonzie (Henry Winkler) jumps over a live shark while on water-skis.

Not what I learned, but what friends didn't know. We had some friends over for dinner this past weekend and when everyone was done eating, we cleared the dishes to the kitchen. At the end of the evening, they offered to help clean up and wash the dishes. Someone got a bit carried away with dish soap and the sink was 1/2 full of suds. The more hot water she added to try to wash the suds down the drain, the more they grew. I heard talk and giggling in the kitchen and took a walk over to see what was going on. They were embarrassed as to what was going on and she said, "they keep growing and I can't get rid of them". I told her o could get rid of them in 15 seconds and at that point, 6 people were standing there looking over my shoulder waiting to see if it could be true. I turned the water to cold, sprayed the bubbles/suds and sure enough in a few seconds they were gone. Their minds were *BLOWN* and you would have thought I was some kind of magician. I thought everyone knew cold water kills suds, but I guess not.

TIL, I have some interesting friends and they learned a new trick.

Not really a TIL, more like today knowledge was reconfirmed, and this story really doesn't deserve it's own thread.  People expect a level of perfection that doesn't exist in the real world.

A phone conversation I had today:

"My 2006 Acura CSX is using oil."

Me: "How much oil are you losing?"

"About a liter in 4500km."

Me:" Ohh, that's not really using oil, by my definition.  How many kilometers on it?"

"330,000km."

Me:" Hahahahaha...sorry, dude, but that is not using oil."

Honda says a quart every 1000 to 3000mi is normal.  If I get my furlongs and hogsheads right that's a liter per 1600 to 5000km.

I had to gently write up an inspection just yesterday for this.  An older Odyssey with well over 200k miles.  It had been 7000mi since the last oil change and he had to add 3 quarts, and they were concerned about oil consumption.  That's in the exact middle of the range (and a miracle for a VCM engine).

Honda, incidentally, points out in their literature that the longer it has been since an oil change, the greater oil consumption would be, since worn oil gets burned off faster.  It's nice to see some sort of official confirmation of something that I had observed over the years.

It also explains why people who like to stretch out their OCIs have much more problems with carbon deposits and have catalytic converters fail earlier.

When I started using these monthly disposable contact lenses, I was really impressed by them.  Over the last week or so, it just seems like they aren't doing much for me and just making everything blurry.  This morning, I realized that I had no idea how long I had been using this pair and that it had to have been over a month so I put a new pair in.  So TIL:  Apparently contacts "wear out".  With the new pair in, nothing is blurry any more.
