I let someone borrow my beater car. Now usually I don't let anyone borrow my cars for any reason, but I felt this couple was at least half qualified. The wife is from Sun Prairie, WI and grew up with her dad driving beater winter cars year-round. Her dad is as shrewd as a camel trader and always has one or two free cars in the driveway. That's the half I'm sure will have no problems with my beater car.
It's the husband that I'm mildly worried about. After explaining to him about never locking the doors, what the sounds are that the car makes and why they aren't bad, how the use the radio, and most importantly how the start the car, he seemed a little worried. Now I realize that most people are not used to having to have the ignition key the right way up and the correct depth in the lock in order to crank the car. I let him sit in the car a few minutes before going down to offer advice on cranking it. I can't explain it, I just know how to put in the key.
The wife knows the importance of always having a third car around, and I think now the husband might let the father-in-law bring down a beater for them, just in case.
