I put in a blind bid in on this car.  I did not have time to go see it in advance yesterday.

https://www.iaai.com/VehicleDetails?itemid=35975154&RowNumber=3&similarVehicleItemId=&isNext=&loadRecent=true

The autobid I just placed is higher than the highest pre-bid by a little.  Via the internet I have already sourced a correct color fender but my real hopes are that the fender and bumper cover can be saved.  Headlight has a cracked mount but replacements are cheap and plentiful.

My intention is to buy this as a flip.  Two door cars are harder to sell but this could make a great student's car.  My goal is to retail for $4k and accept $3.5k.  With only 87k I think the car can justify this when done.  I also think I can get this car through state inspection with only a headlight change.  That also leaves the option for a GRMer sale in an as-is condition (yet state approved.)

About 11:00am I should know the answer.

That's a 2-door Focus that isn't a hatchback?

I had no idea they made those....

That would be a great buy

When the Focus went to that updated grill and interior from '08-'10 they dropped the hatch and offered this trunk.

I figure it was because the Cobalt and Civic offered a coupe.

No USDM hatches in 2008-2011.  We got a warmed over 1st generation, while Europe got a second generation Focus.

Not mine.

I had my max bid structured so that after fees my real cost would be about $1750. That leaves $250 for fender/headlight/bumper parts or a goal of $2k before work begins.

Vehicle sold at $2,233 all total with fees. Too much risk for me having not really seen the car in person. That price is a great retail if someone was keeping it for themselves! Doesn't leave a lot of room for flip. Had I seen the car in person I might have gone higher.

Might do something on this drill press that's somewhat close to me:

Focus coupe! I totally low-key want one of those with a manual. 143 hp, not terrible, but also prime material for a 2.5 swap from a Fusion.

Hot Wheels made a fantasy "racing" version with fender flares and aero bits.

I remember that Ford offered a sporty version of them when new. It seemed like most of them were a pretty cool blue color & I think they had round fog lights in the bumper. They're appearance reminded me of the EGT, but I never had the chance to drive one & see if they were as much fun.

I found a pic:

Always wanted to register to bid on stuff from there.  Couple of lots under 100 miles from me that would contribute to my tinkering needs

My daughter has an 08 2 door stick with 148K on it.... how badly do you want one? laugh  Not to kill your dreams but even with new 16” rubber on hers I’m not seeing the race car potential, plus rear drums.  Suspension is pretty basic and it has that annoying rev hang built in for emissions.   They are pretty much as reliable as gravity though, 05 and up have timing chains and will go big miles with routine maintenance.   If John’s was a stick I’d probably have PM’d him.

The Focus platform handles pretty good with the right setup under it, just look at the SVT version for example. Not in the market for another one right now, I already have an 05 sedan I need to change an alternator on laugh

It’s like we know each other... laugh  My son’s is an 06 ZX3 and it’s actually pretty fun for what it is.  160 ish on that one, he’s in the great state of Texas in grad school so I haven’t laid eyes on that one since November.   I’d love to find an ST for my daughter, she’s really committed to driving a car with a proper gearbox.

Funny story:  After work, we went to Costco and on the way drove past one of these two door non-hatchbacks.  As far as I am aware, I had never seen one of those before, but maybe I just never tried to notice....

Unicorns they are not.  Cheap reliable kids first cars, two thumbs up on that.
