Yeah, it's not the UK version, whatever. If you didn't laugh at tonights episode, you ain't right.
Plus Boris. Boris is the driving equal to Bacon. He makes everything better

I am actually a little concerned about the lack of a harness in the Samurai. Foust could have hurt himself pretty good in the rollover.
Sure, I'm predjudiced (Corvair fan), but I hate to see a solid, restorable '62 Monza destroyed. And they aren't that hard to handle - I ran my first three autocrosses back in the day (at the Dawn of Time) in a '63, you just need good shocks, maintain the air pressure differential correctly, and don't be an idiot. And don't get behind with the the God-awfully slow steering. Of course they are easy to spin on purpose (as it looks like they did during the on-track session).
Actually, the same thing (don't be an idiot) applies to the Samurai and the Pinto. But they aren't sort-of classics. They really dumbed down the situation for the sake of laughs.
I did like weighing down the nose of the 'Vair by filling it with copies of Unsafe at Any Speed, though! And I really liked seeing the Atom. There is one of those in Grand Junction with a V8 (based on twin Hayabusas) that is pretty awesome.
And yes, I do have a sense of humor, and I do get the attempt. I just don't like destroying cars that are solid and have collectible value. Hoping next week's show (shot right here in my area) is better.

I didn't care for the destruction of the Corvair either. I knew it was going to happen though. I'm am kind of prejudiced to begin with anyway, because I grew up with and around Corvairs.
This is the main thing I don't care for on Top Gear US. All of their "challenges" are just about destroying the cars. It isn't like that on Top Gear UK, they usually have some emotional attachment to their cars and they make their best effort not too destroy them. I hate to think that Top Gear US is making their ratings by destroying cars left and right.

Saw most of tonights show and I have to agree. Why do they take nice old cars and destroy them? The Corvair looked nice! I even like Pintos, but mostly the early crome bumper ones.
They take cars that some guy or gal would like to own to use as a DD since they may not be able to afford something better and then turn them into junk!
The people who produce this show need to grow up!

The UK guys have actually kept a couple of their cars. They also gave away the cars from the first USA special.

the show is produced in California, where a car is considered "junk" if it has faded paint. and it is made by tv people from California, and they know that the destruction of vehicles is good for a few laughs.. but in their defense, the destruction of the vehicles in the Alaska special was pretty much perfect and showed what kind of abuse each vehicle was capable of taking before dying, similar to the TGUK special in South America..
hilux, dacia sandero, car darts, falling pianos, dropping cars from aircraft, R/C adaptions followed by crashing into obstacles, crashing lorries through trailers and water jug barriers.....The UK show destroys lots of cars in lots of ways
I've previously watched the show exactly three times. Last night made it four. I thought the first show sucked. I didn't see anything to make me change that opinion. I won't waste anymore of my time watching again.

That's completely different than what we're talking about. The UK guys are taking junk cars and destroying them for fun. We're talking about their challenges when they have to buy their own car for the challenge.
As much as I like Top Gear, both USA and UK, this wrecking of classics has got to stop. Either wreck a new car, or something that's been in a salt state for years and has more holes than metal.
They could have at least used a four door Corvair....
They've done plenty of funny stuff without wrecking the cars involved. The used car salesman episode comes to mind. Driving the semi's was funny, and so was the luxury car challenge.
LOVED last nights show. Hilarious. Fun. And the Atom was nice.
To the haters.... well, haters gonna hate.

It was a spectacular rollover, and I assure you that Tanner was not in the car. You have to take most things on Top Gear with a grain of salt. I mean, you knew the Zuki was going to roll the moment you saw it, and that the Corvair would fishtail wildly, and that the Pinto would somehow catch fire. All three were setups.

Of course they were, still funny as E36 M3. The group has really started to gell though IMO. The jokes care coming more naturally. I loved the scene were Tanner bumps Adam's Pinot in the rear again, and you can see his frustration as he grabs the radio and says "How long are we going to keep doing this?"
Just getting funnier as it goes.
I'm not sure my DVR picked it up. I'll have to torrent it. I forgot to watch for the first time since the show started. I still like it.

Which was my problem. When I saw them fishtailing the Corvair on the course I knew exactly what we would see the rest of the show: exaggeration after exaggeration. I knew the Samurai would roll and I knew they'd blow up the pinto. Hell, Adam even hints at the fact that it was fake. It's hard to enjoy the joke if you've already had the punchline telegraphed two minutes into the show.

+1. I thought I was the only one....I'm getting tired of clarkson.

Clarkson is a clown. I still like the original better, but I tire of hearing complaints about the aspects of Top Gear US that are copied directly from the British version.
Clarkson, Hammond, and May have destroyed a huge number of cars. Clarkson, through his own incompetence, blew up the engine in a Merak. They Crushed a Biturbo for a laugh.
Adding wheels to the rear axle of a car was copied from the original Top Gear as well - Clarkson did it to a Miata. The destruction is simply not a valid reason to prefer one show to the other.
I missed it last night and the week before, but I figure I'll get to see them at some point.
I agree the UK guys destroy a LOT of cars. Hell, I'd love to have the wheels (15" "Euroweaves") off of Clarkson's and May's E30's. A few of my MINI friends went ape when they destroyed a very nice classic Mini in India during the current season (not shown on BBCA yet).
Hammond's purchase and restoration of "Oliver" is cute, but even that was somewhat staged. You know there is no way it was a surprise to him when they brought it over.
Clarkson is supposed to be annoying. That's his purpose/charactor on the show.
yeah, the UK stuff is just as staged and fake. TG is for entertainment purposes only. I like TG UK and TG US. But I take it for what it is: the opposite of Motorweek. And it's good to finally have a fun car show on US TV that isn't something bad like the last version of Knight Rider...
Rutledge is now a regular on another car forum I'm on and he's a stand up car guy, very much like a lot of the guys I know in real life. And he's having a blast doing the show, which you can tell on screen.
