So I'm back in Kansas and looking for a rental home.  I only have a few days here before I have to go back to CT and pack and all that.  I should have asked about this sooner, as the group here is such a good resource, but... so what's the hotness these days with this sort of thing?

I'd like to be 20 miles or less from the 66030 zip code as that's where my job would be.  I want something that has some semblance of a social scene (66030 lacks this, do not debate it if you are from there) and I want a 2 car or larger garage.   That's the cruxt of it, really; searches with anything but CL seem to screw that up.  Zillow isn't really being as useful as I would like.  Not sure what else to try.

Suggestions?  I fly out of here Thursday morning and am committed to focusing on this if I knew what to focus on.

Thx,

I found our current place through Trulia, which had decent filters.

I see a surprising number of rental ads on local Facebook marketplace groups.

zillow or trulia. CL usually scams when it comes to rentals.

Or can you use a local rental agency?  They normally charge the lesee not the lesor so you are not out.  That's how we rent out our properties even though it costs us on the fron thend.  That way the rental agency does background and credit checks for us and both sides have the comfort of a proper renal agreement.

Most of the best places to rent never make it onto the internet.

Work the back channel, family and friends, get out and beat the bushes, tell everyone you see you are looking, etc.

Realtor.com app is pretty good.

Got no back channel in this area, have talked to a couple realtors and they've got nothing, the Facebook Marketplace does have rentals in the area but almost no filtering, Trulia is showing less than Zillow.

I've found a number of rentals via CL before.  Yeah, there's some scam nonsense on it, but it always seems so obvious... And if it doesn't look like a scam, I drive to the property before contacting the person that put up the ad.  I'll check the realtor.com app out.  Seems like I need to start doing searches for rental agencies.

My parents still use CL for their properties, but they use Trulia more and more.

I believe I found something that works, so, thanks to everyone in the thread.  Ended up going with something found on CL.

Maybe Trulia will be useful in the future.  Or, perhaps, something will give the Trulia database more useful filters to help.  As it stands, ' "2 car"|"3 car" ' type searches on CL will continue to be how I find the next place to hang my hat.
