Just saw a promo that 60 minutes is doing a segment on TopGear Sunday.
I'm digging how we finally get the full versions this season. I like the interviews and the news. Doesn't slow the show down at all.
Caught the last 10 or so minutes. Pretty cool. Unfortunately, their formula will never work over here because 1) very few here in the Colonies have a real sense of humor, particularly if it's black humor 2) after something like the jet dragster blowout/crash the lawyers would have a field day. So we will (if we are lucky) get a watered down version that will run maybe 3 episodes then fold.
Saw the last 10 minutes also. Since I don't have cable of any kind I now know what I'm missing....and I could really kick myself. (The segments that 60 Minutes featured made me think this must be a great show.)
I read a few months ago about the Top Gear "trip" through Alabama, and what it was all about. Cripes, some folks have no sense of humor.
If there is an American Top Gear I imagine it will wind up like most British shows that attempt to make the transition from Britcom to Sitcom....not nearly as good as the original.
as Jeremy said on the interview, the chemistry between the 3 guys is what makes the show work. it's not something that can be scripted or forced.
TGUSA is going to suck not because it will be a bad show- it might actually be ok if viewed as a standalone show, even with Ruttledge Wood- but rather because the original is so damn good. people that have never seen the original TG might very well like it- right up until they hear about the original version and check it out on BBC America or out on teh interwebs, that is..

Someone usually gets around to putting them on Youtube or other sites so you can watch them without cable. Even on BBC America its like 3 seasons behind anyway. Once the season gets rolling, it will become my Friday night ritual to watch the latest Top Gear uploads.
I have every episode of Top Gear UK on disc and I highly recommend downloading the torrent. As a matter of fact, TGUK is the #1 most pirated TV show in the world.
for those that missed the segment on TV:

BBC America is currently showing new episodes from this summer, complete with vuvazela jokes and comments about how James May caused the volcano in Iceland to erupt and the oil spill in the gulf...
Sort of off topic, but since the vuvazela was just brought up...
There is currently a contest in South Africa encouraging folks to come up with new uses for this "horn". If any ideas are useable, the 1st prize winner gets something like $1,000.

well, Clarkson does say how he almost "died" or how he got "killed" quite often.. a couple of weeks ago, he got "killed" in a Reliant Robin about 14 times when it flipped..
It was an OK bit....I was surprised they didn't use Leno's "This is my favorite show" clip at the start when discussing TopGear's popularity.

Looks like this episode on BBCA is cut down to an hour. And already the season finale next Mon!?!? That was a short season.

It only is an hour long show. They are showing it without commercials (at least they are on On Demand).
Yeah, it was a six episode season...

when they show the "premier" on monday night, it is an hour and 20 minutes so they can show the entire original version but still have the cutomary 20 minutes of commercials that us American cable subscribers apparently demand.

This is definitely the only way to watch Top Gear (not screwed up edited versions in america). If you want to glimpse into the future and see how god awful top gear remakes are just try to watch an episode of top gear australia.
was on the train into London yesterday and I read a bit of the free news paper aboard... seems the TGUK boys where seen over in and around Israel/Jordon in modified cars (one was camo)... I tossed the paper so don't have it anymore :(... should have kept that bit doh :( lol...
i'm so looking forward to the next season :)

The first four episodes of this season was 1 hr and 20 mins with commercials Last nights episode with Cameron Cruise and Tom Diaz was an hour with commercials. I noticed this when they cut the news segment short which is one of my favorite part of the show. Next weeks finale will be the uncut version.
