For most of modern times BMX has meant either 20- or 24-inch wheels, and I have gone between both camps. A little while ago some late-night surfing tuned me onto 22-inch wheels. Huh?
Well, two days later I ordered an S&M frame kit. I know, a total impulse buy. The cranks are raw three-piece Profiles while everything else pretty much came from Shadow Conspiracy.
I know we have chatted about this before, and last week I got it all put together.

Holy cow. It's the nimbleness of a 20 yet the stability (and room) of the cruiser. And don't worry, Mom, it now has brakes.
Call me a total convert.
I've been wanting to try a 24, is the 22 that much better?
I'd say try each, although the odds of finding a 22 at a dealer are probably slim.
For example, I know that 26s have their fans and I recently tried one. Granted it was set up for my 6-foot-5 friend (really tall bars) but it just felt so big to me. It made my 24 feel like a rocket ship. Glad I took one for a ride before purchasing one.
I bought the 22 sight unseen but fell for it the second I hopped on it. It's like a stable 20.
I want to try a 24 someday. I miss riding these things.
I still have my old Robinson Rebel 20" from back in the day that I put on layaway at my local bike store to serve as the "sports car" to my Mongoose mountain bike. I don't think I'll ever fit on that thing again. Also, the pedals freewheel going both ways, so I need to fix that.
A few years back, I walked into a thrift store and walked out with another almost identical Robinson Rebel for $6.99. I am going to restore it with my nephew, who has been riding a lot lately.
