I am going to be putting my car projects aside for the next few months. My best friend has brought to my attention a benefit for the American Cancer Society this summer being run by an old family friend called Tractors for a Cure. Several years ago his daughter had gotten Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, so since then he's been an advocate. My best friend also got Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma a few years ago and he really wants to be a part of this.

Anyways, I have decided to participate in this benefit. It's basically going to be a 10 mile poker run with tractors. Every tractor that participates needs to pull a "Party Wagon". There's two parties throughout the day at two ofthe stops, one will be a middle of the day BBQ, the one at the end of the day is a 21 and over party.

So, I need a tractor. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. There are a few tractors at my grandmas place that haven't run in 10 or more years.

The one I have decided on is the 1958 Ford 961 Powermaster. It has a 173ci 4-cyl that produces 62 hp and 166 ft-lbs of torque. It most likely needs a carb rebuild, tune up, and fluid change.

With a couple hundred bucks I'll have it running good.

This is a restored version of it, mine is going to retain the original patina.

This sounds like a hoot! Can you get a DUI on a tractor?

Yes, lol.

I'll be leaving the drinking to the people on the party wagon.

That's cool. Wish it was near me, as I have a Ford 3000 that would be perfect for that. The Powermaster is a great tractor - Good luck with it!

I grew up on a farm, and we still have many tractors around. We have one almost exactly like the McCormick in the pic (behind the Ford), except that ours is a W9 (gas) and that one is a WD9 (diesel).

Drain all the fluids (fuel, engine oil and coolant) and clean the fuel tank if necessary. Run some fuel through it, then clean or change (whichever is applicable) the fuel filter. File and gap the points, clean and regap the plugs, and you should be ready to go. Be prepared with another fuel filter (or sediment bowl change) during the event. Take extra water in case your coolant gets low.
