I need to get new tires or wheels and tires for our new to us Pop up Camper. It has on it 175/80D13. D being the load range. There are zillions of tires to choose from. What is the good, the bad and the ugly of trailer tires? Do I just pick something off Amazon prime? Are there dont' go there brands. Are their top quality brands at low prices? I figure with tires for the pop up they will age out before wearing out so how much does a top brand matter?

The tires on there looked good from a tred stand point when we got it, but I always planned on changing them before out upcoming long trip as they were of unknown age and had evidence of side wall cracking. But even moving it about by hand on the drive with high scrub has really chewed up the old tread reinforcing the decision and making it a top priority.

Any advice?

I buy whatever Northern Tool or Tractor Supply are selling with the wheel. I have had no problems.

I like that answer. I need to go to Menards tonight, I'll see what they have

Last couple of times I've needed them, I've gone with Carlisles from Discount Tire. I over-researched this topic like I always do, and came to the conclusion that most of the "evidence" that's out there is 100% anecdotal, so you might as well just pick something convenient and cheap.

Well based on Tom's advice this looks unbeatable http://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Trailer-Wheel-ST175-80D13/dp/B00IEYDZTC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_293_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1VBFGZP2Y5DATG870KM3

Went through this last summer with my micro-camper. There can't possibly be a nickel's worth of profit in these, because nobody you've ever heard of is making them.

Almost regardless of where you buy (outside of Discount Tire's Carlisles) you will get whatever "brand" that the vendor's supplier got the cheapest price on a sea container load that month. One brand seems to be no better or worse than another.

One word of advice: whatever rubber compound they're using seems to be really sensitive to UV, so invest in a set of tire covers (if you store outside) or you will be buying tires again next year.

So, does this mean there is a landfill filled to the brim with dinky steel trailer wheels? I've always wondered about that. Almost seems like there should be an equivalent to a propane canister exchange, though I suppose the liability situation is harder to evaluate for wheels.
