We're going to the show here in Atlanta in a few weeks. Saw the previous show 3 times and can't wait to see the new one. We're bringing our kids for the first time this year. Do they use as much pyrotechnics, lasers, etc...as the previous show? My boys are so excited to see that stuff. I use TSO a lot in my home Christmas display (lights dance to music broadcast on FM radio, etc...) so we're big fans.
Let me start by saying that music is subjective and I am glad you like the TSO. My wife and I went a few years back and I fell asleep about 30 minutes in and after about an hour of listening to the odd voice-over guy talk about flying motorcycle angels, my wife asked if we could leave. Not our cup of tea at all.

I went a few years ago with the ex. The first half of the show was a narrated story with music. Kinda boring. I was worried. 2nd half though was when the real music began and they played what you would expect.
TSO is awesome, mainly because they are pretty much the 80's metal band Savatage. I saw them a couple years back, and they put on a killer show.

Yeah, if you walked out that early, you missed the high energy portion of the show...which is awesome. I happen to like the first part too, but it's a whole different style than the second part.
Just saw TSO on Friday. The narrative/storytelling portion was a bit. . . Slow. The second part of the show was awesome!! Overall, the music, pyro and performance was speculator!!
Not sure why, but I just can't get into these guys - and I'm a major progressive rock/metal guy. It's just too...chug-chug-a-chug through most of their songs. I took SWMBO 2 years ago to see them & it was a very good performance, I just couldn't get into.
Coversely, I took her to see the Kenny Rodgers Xmas show last year and found it quite entertaining, despite not really being a fan of his music or Xmas.
I've seen them in concert every year since moving here in 2005- and twice a few years back when I ended up getting tickets to see the concert down in San Antonio with my family at the last minute while there for Christmas. We're seeing them up in Cinci in a few weeks, couldn't see the local show since it's on a Thursday night and SWMBO works Thursday nights. Always one of my favorite shows- but I have a bit of a lighting/rigging/video background and am always blown away by their stage and truss setup. Last year's projection mapping was AWESOME, and I can't wait to see what they've come up with this year- and how much more fire they bring. Every year they seem to bring more, I figure by 2020 they'll all have to be wearing fireproof suits because the stage will just be on fire for the whole show.
We are going to see them at Ft Wayne in a couple of weeks, not enthused but you guys are making me feel better about it.
Gina is flat out excited anticipating the concert though
Someday I will be able to justify the money to go see them. I like classical metal.
Edit: just Google savatage. Thanks. I dig them.
saw them last winter... it was a technically awesome show... but that is what made it kinda boring- it was too damn perfect... the hot female violin player maintaining eye contact with me for a solid 10 seconds while playing as she walked past our seats when she walked back from the second little stage to the main front stage was pretty intense..
