I'd bet any business owner would jump at the chance for PR like this. If this were some small, struggling company folks would be saying "what a great guy that business owner is".

Instead it's fun to pile on the hate for a successful company.

Sad.

Yes, they're doing it for themselves as much as they're doing it to be nice folks, just like anyone else would in that situation.

If any of you were in the position that HD is in, would you say "F- him, I'm not going to do anything because it might make me look like a self-serving douche"?

I'm simply indifferent to H-D, but the hate on them over this reminds me of a bit on Friends, there is no such thing as a "selfless good deed".

It may be some self serving PR, but it is better than nothing.

Stop looking at it as a pr stunt. How about if they are doing a nice thing, and the reward for them is some good press. Judging by all the haters, they need some good press, and really you all are crucifying the company for the actions of some purchasers. I hate straight pipes as well, but they never leave the factory like that.

I think you guys need to re-read the posts. From what I see, there is some dislike of the motorcycles, some hate of a-holes making a lot of noise on their motorcycles, and one person thinking the company is doing a "bad" thing (hating on the company) for their efforts to restore the bike.

I believe there are actually more posts about people hating on the company than actual posts hating on the company.

Who is that one person? Maybe you need to re-read the posts.

Well, if you were not criticizing their actions, you did not do a very good job at communicating that (as the posts above will attest).

I think the cancer dude should donate his unused and non-refundable spirit air ticket to a tsunami survivor.

Good for HD. I don't understand the whole scene myself and usually laugh when I see the guys riding them all decked out in their HD gear. Wild Hogs is always on my mind. Nothing about the sound appeals to me, but they sure have created a product with a large, growing, and affluent customer base.
